“Union activities are naturally my passion,” said Lan Anh. “When I started university, I still wanted to go all out and share my enthusiasm and strength in class, faculty and Union activities, which are quite different and more challenging here. Students must take the initiative, plan the activities carefully and work with related organizations. I am fortunate to enjoy the guidance of my lecturers, more senior students and other members of the faculty and executive committees to achieve success.”
Lan Anh and the other members of the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Chinese Union Branch have organized several successful activities and improved the bonding of Union members. These include welcoming the K26 freshmen, the new-year Faculty of Chinese gala, the student sports festival for the School of Foreign Languages, the charitable Sunshine for the Highlands program, in collaboration with the Union branches of the Faculties of Law, Social Sciences & Humanities and Electrical Engineering, and the “Calligraphy Talent”, “Ring the Golden Bell and “Youth Go Green” online contests.
Lan Anh furthermore leads the Chinese Language Club. She is one of the key members and, for the effective functioning of the club, she actively proposes ideas for weekly and monthly events and program and supports external relations and invites Chinese people for Club exchanges. Under Lan Anh’s direction, the club organized and led the very effective “Weekly song and radio” and successfully held a Day Day Up online contest and an exchange talk show with international students and students of Chinese at other universities.
Lan Anh was awarded the title of Student of Five Merits at university level in 2018-2019 and in 2019-2020 and at city level in 2019-2020, and a school-level award of Youthful Example of the Advancement of Uncle Ho’s Words in 2020-2021. She was furthermore awarded certificates of course completion for a winter school at Hunan University, China, and for a summer school of Shanghai University and Sun Yat-sen University, China.
Passion for Chinese
Lan Anh is furthermore the object of admiration among her classmates for her excellent study results: always summa cum laude and recipient of outstanding student awards for being in the top three of the Faculty. She is also one of the K24 students to have excellently received a first-year scholarship in 2018-2019 and she has been exemplary and outstanding student non-stop from 2018 to 2020.
“Knowing how to appropriately balance and divide one’s time between different tasks has allowed me to be good at both studying and other activities,” Anh reveals. “Besides, my dream for later is to become a Chinese-language teacher, which is how I’ve always found the motivation and passion to study. To study, and especially for specialized subjects, besides mastering the knowledge in the textbook and from the lectures in class, I also practice Chinese through music, series and films on Chinese history and culture, translation of stories, and subtitling Chinese videos online.”
In 2020-2021, Lan Anh was awarded a scholarship for exemplary students and an exchange student scholarship from the Chinese Language and Culture School of Kunming (China). At the start of the academic year 2021-2022, she received yet another scholarship, one for a student exchange at the Beijing Language and Culture University. “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I can’t go to China to study at the university I had an exchange scholarship for, so I’m studying online instead, with Chinese students and international students from Malaysia, India, South Korea, and the like. This is a golden opportunity for me to hone and improve my knowledge of Chinese culture and history and my level of Chinese. It’s also a chance for networking, exchanging documentation, getting more study experience, and introducing the best of Vietnamese culture to international peers.”
