Two Vietnamese Universities Ranked in Top 500 Universities Internationally for the First Time

DTU and Ton Duc Thang universities have been listed in the top 401-500 of the 2022 THE world university rankings, which includes 1,662 higher education institutions in 99 countries and territories. This is the first time that Vietnamese universities have been ranked that high, due to their strong growth in citation indexing. 
 
DTU in particular had a citation index of 100, ranked first worldwide and Ton Duc Thang University, with 99.3, ranked 18th, even higher than the index ratings of leading universities, such as Harvard University and the University of California. The Vietnam National University in Hanoi, which appeared in the 801 - 1,000 group twice, ranked 1,001 - 1,200 this year and Vietnam National University in HCMC and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology were both ranked 1,201+.

Overall, Oxford University topped the rankings for the sixth consecutive year, followed by the California Institute of Technology and Harvard University, both 2nd and Stanford University and Cambridge University equal 3rd. China had two representatives in the top 20, including Peking University, and Tsinghua University for the first time. The US was the highest ranked country, with 183 universities listed in total and 57 in the top 200. Six other countries were ranked for the first time, in Azerbaijan, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Fiji, Palestine and Tanzania.

The top 10 universities in the world
 
Harvard University ranked first in teaching, while Oxford University led in research and Macau University of Science and Technology ranked first in international outlook.
 
The five THE 2022 ranking criteria were the same as in 2021:
 
- Teaching (learning environment): 30%
- Research (volume, income and reputation): 30%
- Scientific citations (research influence): 30%
- International outlook (of staff, students and studies): 7.5%
- Income (knowledge transfer): 2.5%
