Amateur Filmmaking Workshop

On December 21, DTU ran a workshop on amateur filmmaking, featuring YouTuber Tran Manh Cuong, a well-known face on the Vietnamese movie scene, together with lecturers and students of Architecture, and others.

Movies and video clips produced by young filmmakers have recently grown into immensely attractive “nurture for the mind”, heartily enjoyed, remarked on and shared by their netizens. Their unique and refreshing ideas and viewpoints make their work ever more diverse and endearing to viewers.

“When they first have the idea of moviemaking, young people today worry about their shortage of funds to pay for the most sophisticated, high-quality cameras and supporting equipment,” explained Tran Manh Cuong. “In reality, the most famous, popular and prolific YouTube channels mostly use extremely basic equipment, nothing expensive or unattainable. This is why you should not worry about lavish funding when you embark on a career in filmmaking. Just use your own creative ideas, personal opinions and life experiences as your starting capital.”

The necessary, specialized filmmaking software was introduced and participants disclosed their own experiences and secrets for creating captivating, real-life works, as well as their most memorable moviemaking failures.

The workshop gave Architecture students a better understanding of how to make and edit films, create the best visual effects and tailor their filmmaking skills to make them more proactive, independent and effective in the future.
