On October 23, in Danang, the DTU Ports, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (SCM) program was launched at its first international seminar. SCM will be a new and unique Bachelor degree program to be offered by DTU in the Central Region. The seminar was entitled: “The Korea - Vietnam Partnership - International Cooperation in Education and Industry”, was held at the DTU campus in Hoa Khanh.
An MOU was signed between DTU and Dong-A University
The seminar was attended by leaders from the Danang Port Authority; the Dean of Business Administration and the Director of the Intelligent Container Center (ICC) from Dong-A University in Busan in South Korea; representatives from the Hue Institute for Development Studies; lecturers from the Danang College of Economics and Planning; Professor. Lim Sang Taek, Director of DTU Institute of Hospitality Training & Research; Dr. Luis Alfaro, Head of the DTU Logistics and Supply Chain Management program and staff & students from the DTU Talent Programs.
Dr. Luis Alfaro remarked that the seminar marked the beginning of a unique program with which DTU will satisfy the development and growing demand for a specialized new major in Ports, Logistics and SCM. He presented his development plan for the industry-oriented SCM program. He stressed the importance of international academic partnerships, with South Korea as the backbone of the 2020 to 2050 agenda, as specified in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result, Vietnam now plans to improve ports and logistics infrastructure nationwide, employing "Smart Business Models".
The seminar was timed as the first step in the implementation of a successful potential cooperation agreement with the ICC Center, which specializes in technology for Ports, Logistics and SCM, using the Internet of Things (IoT), which will strengthen the academic foundation, mission, vision and educational values of DTU. The Ports, Logistics and SCM degree program is the result of long term planning, hard work and a visionary proposal in line with the Vietnamese National Agenda of Logistics, which is a mega Master Plan determined by the central government of Vietnam.
The DTU program aims to improve the research, development and commercialization of technology and series of initiatives in international collaboration are planned to benefit scholars and the economic sector in Vietnam and overseas in general. DTU welcomes the participation of South Korea, a nation with great altruistic potential, experienced in expert, strategic, networked partnerships.
Dr. Hyung Rim Choi, Director of the Intelligent Container Center, Dong-A University, congratulated DTU on its 25th anniversary and hoped that the collaboration program between Dong-A Univiveristy and DTU would achieve its goals into the future.

The seminar also stressed the importance of creating a General Directorate of Ports, Logistics and SCM, as a think-tank to serve as the foundation of “business smartization", in this and various other areas that affect the Vietnamese economy. The innovative new major will also teach and promote Smart Friendly City concepts.
