The DTU International School held a “Fourth Industrial Revolution” seminar to update DTU lecturers and students on this subject. Dr. Anand Nayyar, a Computer Science researcher for twenty years and a DTU Graduate School lecturer, talked about previous Industrial Revolutions in general and then focused on the new fourth Industrial Revolution. 

Industrial Revolutions mark the transition to new manufacturing processes and are major turning points in almost every aspect of our daily lives, economically, socially, culturally and technologically. The process began in Britain in the 18th century and slowly spread to other parts of the world.  With the increasing use of steam power, the first Industrial Revolution took place in the late 19th century and now we are all just entering the first stages of the fourth Industrial Revolution, which is automating and integrating systems, the internet, cloud computing, big data and the internet of things (IOT).    

Dr. Nayyar said: “According to the World Economic Forum report, Vietnam ranked 90th in technology and innovation. With this basic foundation built on modernization and industrialization, Vietnam will quickly make significant progress into the fourth stage, offering both opportunities and challenges, ranging from the training of highly-qualified human resources to systems security, where proper, specialized education is already vital.”

Dr. Nayyar also talked about industrial revolutions of the future, Industry X.0. Although cyber-technology is an important part of Industry 4.0, Industry X.0 is then the future transformation and integration of these technologies and component interactions. To prepare students for careers in the fourth Industrial Revolution, DTU has partnered with well-known universities worldwide to develop advanced programs, including PSU, CMU, CSU and PNU. Using CDIO- based teaching methods, students will gain the advanced knowledge and skills to put the theory they learned into practice.
