To assist Vietnamese PhD students to learn how to apply for scholarships to study for a PhD in Electrical Engineering and in Information Technology in developed countries, DTU and the British Council jointly held the 4th international Summer Research School, from August 24th to 26th. Forty graduates and scholarship seekers from universities in Ha Noi, Quy Nhon, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang attended.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, DTU Vice-Provost, said: “After three annual international Summer Research Schools, 44 out of 66 participants obtained full scholarships to conduct research in the UK, France, the USA, Canada, Germany, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan. DTU continues to offer students from all over Vietnam the opportunity to learn and participate in key activities to prepare for study abroad. Hopefully, the young Masters will be able to broaden their knowledge at this year’s school and be eligible for to apply for full scholarships in developed countries.”
The annual event is to improve knowledge and research skills for current or prospective PhD students who are developing their interests in academic research as a very stepping stone towards a successful academic research career in the fields of Electronics-Telecommunications and Information Technology.
During lectures by Dr. Duong Quang Trung, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Long and Research student Hoang Minh Tiep of Queen’s University in Belfast; Professor. Muhammad Imran of the University of Glasgow; Dr. Ha Dac Binh and Dr. Vo Nguyen Son of Duy Tan University; participants were introduced to much new advanced research information, including tips on how to produce effective references and citations, how to avoid plagiarizing, the range of scientific writing styles, presentation techniques, ISI paper formats, the use of software in research and computational applications and research methods in Electrical Engineering and IT.

Besides, attendees were equipped with information on PhD scholarships and necessary procedures as well as scholarship applications; some tips on successfully applying for scholarships; working with a promoter; life as a PhD student and career options after graduation.
