Duy Tan University has gradually gained prestige in General Practitioner education with its steadily increasing quality and quantity of staff and teaching facilities.
DTU partners with American universities and Vietnamese medical centers
Currently the number of applicants to the General Practitioner major is increasing significantly as more young people want to become doctors. This new program is directly addressing the strong demand for doctors and enrollees can be assured that they have made the right decision. The government has approved a master plan to upgrade the national healthcare network until 2020, including public health and preventative medicine, primary care systems, drug production and supply. By 2020, at least eight physicians will be available for every 10,000 of the population, requiring 500,000 health professionals, including 55,245 doctors. The demand for health-care workers in Vietnam is huge, but there is always a continuing shortage of qualified throughout Vietnam, which will provide significant opportunities for students majoring in the General Practitioner program.

Unlike other universities, DTU educates General Practitioners for seven years, with the first year dedicated to studying basic and specialized English. Several basic science subjects are taught in English, to assess and improve student ability to study and conduct research using specialized English materials over the six subsequent years.
DTU students practicing in laboratories
DTU collaborates with the University of Illinois in Chicago, which has the largest Medical and Pharmacy programs in the US and with the University of Pittsburgh, one of the leading medical research universities, to share their programs. Students can also practice with virtual patients in the MedSim studios and use the 3D Simulation model, developed by DTU Center of Visualization & Simulation (CVS).
Partnerships with 18 Hospitals
DTU partners with eighteen local hospitals where students work with experienced medical staff and practice with patients. These include the Hue Central Hospital, the Danang Hospital, the Danang C Hospital, the 17th Military Zone Hospital, the 199th Hospital of the Ministry of Public Security and others.
DTU has built a team of 188 professors, PhDs, Masters, specialists, pharmacists and nurses. Students can also practice in special laboratories, such as the Physic Chemistry and Biology laboratory, the Pathophysiology and Immunity laboratory, the Microbiology laboratory and the Parasite Laboratory.
The number of applicants increases year-by-year
It is said that “Good wine needs no bush”. Recent GP applicants achieved high entry scores, such as Nguyen Hoang Bao Tram in Binh Dinh, with 26.75, Hoang Thi Tuong Vy in Quang Tri, with 25.85, and Nguyen Xuan Kha in in Thua Thien Hue with 26.7.
In 2018, DTU will award the following scholarships to applicants of General Practitioner program :
- Scholarships for students from Gifted High Schools, of 5 million vnd each for the first year of study, for all applicants with a High School Graduation Exam three-course grade average of 18 or more.
- Direct enrollment preferential scholarships, worth 5 million vnd in the first year, for applicants who have already won consolation prizes in National Skilled Student contests or National Science and Technology contests.
