Previous technological revolutions have helped accelerate economic growth worldwide, resulting in climate change, severe environmental pollution and resource depletion. Environmental protection has become a vital global issue. Many organizations have tried to control environmental pollution and now DTU is contributing by offering a new major in Environmental Engineering and in Natural Resources & Environmental Management.
The DTU Faculty of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, which is also known for its Food Technology major, which began in 2016, is staffed by six PhDs and fifteen Masters, all of whom graduated from well-known Vietnamese and foreign universities.
DTU won the 2013 CDIO cup at MIT and Harvard University and second prize in the 2016 “Go Green in the City” contest
The DTU Faculty of Environmental and Chemical Engineering invests in both theoretical and experimental research, with 69 papers published in the ISI/Scopus journal and the following research projects:
- The treatment of domestic waste using worms
- The treatment of textile wastewater using microalgae
- The treatment of aquatic wastewater using microorganisms
The Faculty frequently send their students into the field to teach them about the most recent local environmental issues and investigate solutions together.
Students do research in special DTU labs
Graduates will be able to choose jobs in:
- The Department of Science and Technology
- The Department of Natural Resources and Environment
- Environment Management Agencies
- The Research Institute of Natural Resources and Environment
- Industrial or Waste Treatment Plants
- The Center for Environmental Monitoring
- Government agencies involved in environmental protection
DTU students have won several major awards, including:
- The 2013 CDIO cup at MIT and Harvard University with its “Low-Cost Do-It-Yourself Water-Filtering System for Farmers”
- Runners-up in the East Asian “Go Green in the City 2016” contest
- Champions of “Go Green in the City 2017”, with its “Mini Toilet Generator” project.
In 2018, DTU will award the following scholarships to the Environmental major applicants:
- DTU scholarships worth 1 to 5 million vnd for applicants in Environmental majors with a High School Graduation Exam three-course grade average three points higher than the minimal admissions grade.
- A 15% reduction in first-year tuition fees for applicants in Environmental majors with high grades and an early application.
- Scholarships of 500,000 to 2 million vnd for applicants in Environmental majors with a High School transcript of 22 or more.
- Scholarships for students from Gifted High Schools, of 5 million vnd each for the first year of study, for all applicants in Environmental majors with a High School Graduation Exam three-course grade average of 18 or with a High School transcript of 22 or more.
- Direct enrollment preferential scholarships, worth 5 million vnd in the first year, for applicants in Environmental majors who have already won consolation prizes in National Skilled Student contests or National Science and Technology contests.
