We talked with Dr. Dang Viet Hung, Dean of DTU Faculty of Information Technology about the 2018 Enrollment season.
Dr. Dang Viet Hung
DTU offers 5 IT study programs:
• Network Engineering
• Software Engineering
• Information Systems
• Network Security
• Big Data & Machine Learning
1. Can you explain why IT has always been the most popular DTU major over the past decade?
- In the world today, IT influences all our activities. The benefits of technology result in increased productivity in most work-related and personal tasks, resulting in a significant, increasing demand for IT professionals, now and in the near future.
2. Choosing to study IT allows graduates to choose between several different careers with attractive salaries. However, the more newly qualified workers there are, the more the older ones will face difficulties staying informed and risking redundancy. How can this be avoided?
- Gaining the correct qualifications and continuous self-study are required for all IT students. To keep up with the rapid growth of information, students must keep learning even after graduation. DTU students are required to study independently in their freshman year and the university attaches special importance to them gaining the project management skills that will broaden their opportunities for promotion before the age of 40.
DTU is equipped with highly configurable IT computers
3. Currently, it takes time for IT firms to retrain IT fresh graduates. What has DTU been doing to improve this situation?
- DTU collaborates with Carnegie Mellon University, one of the four leading IT universities in America, to offer CMU-standard majors in Software Engineering, Information System and Network Engineering. The university also partners with IT companies, including Axon, Enclave, FPT, IBM and others, to hold student training courses, seminars and career orientation.
4. As the most popular academic program, IT has attracted quite a few female students, who have recently received several awards. Can you tell us about opportunities for women in IT?
- Whatever you study, you will succeed if you have a passion for it. In fact, most female IT lecturers at DTU have gained significant awards. For example, Nguyen Thu Quynh won the Distinguished Award for a female Vietnamese IT student in 2012, in her third year at DTU.
5. An IT education has recently become a top priority for many graduates who want to start up their own companies. Could you expound on this?
- Mobile technologies, especially smartphones, wearable devices, cloud computing can open up the door to new horizons for young people with ambitions to start up their own businesses. And they don’t need much money to do so, like video game artist and programmer Nguyen Ha Dong, who developed the first Flappy Bird game. However personal qualifications and creativity play an important role on the road to success.
6. Can you tell us why the CMU International-Standard programs at DTU are always “leading-edge”?
- One hundred percent of CMU IT students find jobs before graduation, so the quality of the DTU programs can be fully trusted. At the end of the course, students will obtain from 18 to 24 course-completion certificates with international recognition. However, the course and final exams are all in English, perfecting their proficiency on graduation.
In 2018, DTU will award the following scholarships to IT applicants:
• Talent Scholarships, comprising 10 full and 10 partial scholarships per major, for Big Data & Machine Learning enrollees with a High School Graduation Exam three-course grade average of 24 (full scholarships) or 22 or more (partial scholarship).
• 15 scholarships of 20 million dong each from the Boeing Aircraft Company for applicants of CMU-standard majors.
• And other scholarships, including:
- DTU scholarships,
