This is the first time that the CDIO Regional Academy has been held at the CDIO Regional Meeting, with forty students in sixteen teams, eighteen of whom were from other countries.

Initially conceived by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the number of institutions implementing CDIO worldwide has increased steadily, especially in the USA and Northern Europe. CDIO is an innovative educational framework which teaches the learning methods and skills required to adapt to social trends, focusing on the fundamentals of engineering, in the context of Conceiving, Designing, Implementing and Operating real-world systems and products.

CDIO has been adopted as the framework for curricular planning and outcome-based assessment. It is a powerful tool for professionals and, at the same time, helps students learn both the “hard skills” and “soft skills” they need to adapt to the current international working environment.

The CDIO Initiative now has hundreds of educational institutions collaborating. The CDIO Academy in Asia has 28 members, with 5 from Vietnam, including the Viet Nam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, Duy Tan University, Thu Dau Mot University, Dalat University and the FPT University.

DTU students won the CDIO Cup at the CDIO Academy at MIT and Harvard University in 2013, at the Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland in 2016 and at the University of Calgary in Canada in 2017.
