2017 DTU Enrollment in Technology and Engineering

DTU has several scholarship programs and advanced teaching methods that meet the requirements of the Technology and Engineering industry.

Technology and Engineering are sectors with fastest development and the most direct influence on our everyday activities, in academia, manufacturing, business and in the consumer and entertainment markets, demanding a high-quality workforce. Educational deficiencies will risk graduating students who lack these requirements.

DTU practices what it teaches in these critical disciplines, including the publication of hundreds of ISI papers in Technology and Engineering every year. Meanwhile, the university’s “start-up” culture is developing quickly, with students and lecturers creating dozens of technological products and winning international competitions, like IDEERS, CDIO and Go Green. Their products may then be eligible for further investment and commercialization through partnerships with local companies.

Worldwide partnerships give new impetus to the quality of education at DTU

The DTU Faculty of Information Technology offers three majors:

- Network Security
- Software Engineering
- Information Systems

Since 2008, in order to improve the standard of education in Information Technology, DTU has been collaborating with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), one of the four leading universities in Information Technology in the US. They have jointly developed international-standard programs in Software Engineering, Information Systems, and Network Security, accelerating training and increasing the opportunities for graduates to secure top jobs in IT. Overall, the students have found employment within three months of graduation, compared with 100% of the students from the advanced CMU program.

The Faculty currently has a team of three PhDs, five research students and fifteen post-graduate lecturers, who work hard to identify internships and jobs at companies like LogiGear Vietnam, Gameloft Vietnam, FPT Software and Global Cybersoft, in HCMC. DTU’s Information Technology students have won several prizes, including the ISITDTU Information Security team, who are ranked 40th worldwide and 2nd in Vietnam by CTFTime. IT students have won first, second and third prizes at the Computerized Fireworks Display contest and Nguyen Thu Quynh won the title in the 2012 Exemplary Female IT Student competition. DTU students have also won first, second and third prizes in the national Informatics Olympiad.

The DTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers four majors:

- Digital Design
- Electrical Automation
- Electrical Engineering
- Telecommunications

These majors are important because PhDs and engineers at DTU customarily focus on them in their research laboratories after lecturing. The Basic Electronics Lab, Electric Appliances Lab, the Advanced Printed Circuit Line and the Robotics Lab have all produced impressive “Made in Duy Tan” products. These include a robot that guides pedestrians across busy streets, which won a Creative Youth award from the Union Central Committee. In addition, a smart condom dispenser is being tested at several public locations around Danang and the Smart Garden project won first prize in the 2016 Microsoft Imagine Cup. DTU won first, second and third prizes at the national Physics and Mechanics Olympiads. Other DTU products have been implemented in local businesses, such as a weld-checking robot for inspecting ship hulls at the Song Thu Shipyard, a packaging machine for Viettel and a parking system for Danang hospitals.

With thirty students in a class and twenty students per lecturer, classroom activities, research and fieldtrips are combined to offer students the highest quality of education.

Technology and engineering students win prizes in national and international competitions

The DTU Faculty of Construction offers three majors:

- Civil and Industrial Construction
- Road and Bridge Construction
- Construction Management Technology

The Faculty currently comprises seven PhDs, twenty-five post-graduates and two Engineers. In order to provide a dynamic and creative educational environment and interesting construction projects, DTU has invested in partnerships with foreign universities teaching Construction, to transfer advanced, world-quality programs. For example, since 2010, DTU has collaborated with California State University Fullerton and with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to develop the first and only advanced programs in Architecture and Construction in Central Vietnam. California State University Fullerton is the largest school in the California State University system and Cal Poly one of the top five universities in Architecture in the US. Surpassing the faculties of Construction at other universities in Central Vietnam, both public and private, the DTU Faculty of Construction has published seventy national and international papers, thirty of which have appeared in prestigious ISI-listed journals such as Composite Structure and the Fire Safety Journal.

The Faculty of the Environment offers three majors:

- Environmental Technology and Engineering
- Natural Resource and Environmental Management
- Food Technology

The DTU Faculty of the Environment has twenty-five students per lecturer, with five PhDs and twelve post-graduates, and has published papers in seventy national and international publications, with thirty-five in ISI-indexed journals. Recent topographical, landscape and water quality changes in Danang, have required the Faculty to participate in extra fieldwork, collecting water and earth samples to determine the causes. As a result, lecturers from the Faculty of the Environment have contributed to current research on the origin of red tides and the erosion of the Danang beaches.

DTU students of Construction and Environment are pro-active, have excellent career prospects and have won several major prizes. In 2013, at the CDIO Academy Champions’ Cup, held at Harvard and MIT, DTU won first and second prize, and, in 2016, were runners-up in the East Asia Go Green in the City contest, after winning the Vietnam championship by beating other strong teams from the Foreign Trade University, the Hanoi Medical University and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology. DTU also won the only first prize in the 2010 Loa Thanh competition, which was also a first for Danang, and, since then, have won several second, third and consolation prizes at each annual Loa Thanh contest.

In 2017 DTU continues to award scholarships to Technology and Engineering majors:

- Full 100% tuition scholarships for enrollees in any major in the advanced international CMU, CSU, and PNU programs, with a High School Final Exam score in three subjects of 20 or more.
- Fifteen scholarships from the Boeing Aircraft Company for 20 million VND each for the CMU program.
- Ten scholarships worth 30% of the first-year tuition fee for enrollees in the advanced CSU Civil and Industrial Construction program.
- Scholarships of 50% of first-year tuition for enrollees in the Civil and Industrial Construction or Bridge and Road Construction programs.
- Ten scholarships worth 50% of first-year tuition for enrollees in the advanced PSU Electricity and Electronics or Mechatronics program.
- Scholarships of 1 million VND each for enrollees living in Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Nghe An in the Digital Design or Electric Automation programs.
