Sixty delegates from Japan, the UK, China, the US, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Canada, France, Australia and Vietnam attended the International Conference on Recent Advances in Signal Processing, Telecommunications & Computing, known as SigTelCom 2017, hosted by DTU in collaboration with the Newton Institutional Link, the British Council and the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, from January 9th to 11th. 

  

Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Minh, DTU Vice-Provost, said “Over the past ten years, we have expanded international partnerships with many well-known universities worldwide to improve the quality of education. DTU has also hosted international conferences to provide a forum for researchers to share their latest work and establish new relationships. After the unexpected success of our two previous conferences, SigTelCom 2017 has broadened opportunities even further to developing new, joint ICT projects.”

 

Forty-six of the best papers were selected from the one hundred submissions for presentation. The conference featured keynote speakers from renowned leaders in the ICT field. Professor Kenichi Mase from Niigata University and Professor Fumiyuki Adachi from Tohoku University in Japan gave talks on “5G: Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Wide-Area Deployment” and “Distributed MIMO Cooperative Signal Transmission for 5G”, respectively. They were followed by tutorials delivered by Dr. Atsushi Kano, from the National Institute of ICT in Japan, on the topic of “Advanced Photonic Technologies for Future Wireless Communications and Imaging” and Dr. Des McLernon, from the University of Leeds in the UK, on “Applications of Mobile Robots and Drones in Future Wireless Communication Systems”. All papers were published in the IEEE SigTelCom 2017 proceedings. The best papers will also be published in a special issue of the IET Communication Journal, one of the leading publications in Telecommunications, with an impact factor of 0.8.

 

Dr. Trung, from Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland said: “It is my honor to be appointed Chairperson of SigTelCom 2017 at DTU, which has attracted many leading researchers in the fields of Signal Processing, Telecommunications and Computing. Dr. Trung lectures at Queen’s University in Belfast. After three years at Queen’s, Dr. Trung is the leader of eight research projects and the author or co-author of 230 international research papers, with 120 published in ISI-indexed journals. He has received several awards, including an Honorary Fellowship from the British Science Association, two Best Paper Awards, one at the 2016 IEEE GLOBECOM in Washington DC in 2016 and the other at the 2014 IEEE ICC in Sydney, Australia. Recently, Dr. Trung has been honored as the Young Outstanding Scientist of 2016 at Queen’s University. 

Although he is busy lecturing and researching, Dr. Trung still finds time to return to Vietnam every year to contribute to the development of new, local research and shares his broad knowledge with young Vietnamese students. He gives lectures to students of Electrical Engineering and IT at DTU and frequently collaborates with DTU to organize international conferences.
