DTU students won two third and two Council prizes at the 2016 Loa Thanh Tournament on November 26th, with highly practical projects that meet the current needs of the community. DTU students and teachers attended the awards ceremony at the Hanoi Temple of Literature on November 28th.
Loa Thanh is an annual award given to the best graduation projects of Construction and Architecture students. It is organized jointly by the Vietnam Construction Federation, the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Ministry of Construction, with the objective of motivating, encouraging, identifying and honoring new talent in Construction and Architecture. This year, 189 graduation projects from 23 universities nationwide were presented.
Hoang Minh Tung and his project “A Floating Ecovillage”
The DTU projects this year were recognized by the prize committee for their use of special design software, the application of new construction technologies, their intelligent solutions to solve complex drawing problems, which all resulted in strong, durable structural designs, which met the necessary requirements and were also very environmentally friendly.
The project “A Floating Ecovillage near the Ham Ninh Traditional Fishing Village” by Hoang Minh Tung, from the DTU/CSU Architecture class, won third prize for his design of a floating ecovillage to develop Aquaculture commerce for the Ham Ninh commune. He computed the speed required for wind turbines to provide sufficient energy for steady, durable operation. The project also allows for the retention and integration of traditional fishing methods and, at the same time, will bring tourists to the fishing village.
Tran Duy Ha and his advisor
The other third prize went to Tran Duy Ha, for his project “The Tuy Loan High-Tech Agricultural Zone”. He designed a model for planting clean crops to improve quality production and supply requirements. In high-tech agricultural zones, farmers will use methods such as hydroponics and drip irrigation technology to limit the use of chemicals and ensure food safety. In addition, natural river water will be used, together with water recycling techniques to conserve the environment, using solar power from nearby buildings.
The projects “The Danang High-Tech Incubator” by Nguyen Van Quy and “The Ocean Plaza - Danang” by Doan Le Quang won Council prizes, judged impressive, durable and potentially beneficial to the future development of Danang.
“This year’s Loa Thanh award was very important to me because it was both a reward and an important milestone marking five years of study and hard-work at DTU,” Tran Duy Ha explained. “With the knowledge and skills I have acquired here, I am really confident to start my career and determined to become a successful architect, to design beautiful and high-quality buildings in our city.”
After graduation, Tran Duy Ha was immediately hired by ARTTHI Architecture in Danang. Hoang Minh Tung has become a Design Architect at ART CONNECT Design and Construction (H.A.C.) and Doan Le Quang is now a Structural Design Engineer at Maeda Vietnam, a building contractor with Japanese investment. They are all proof of the excellent Construction and Architecture education at DTU.
