Achievements

On November 5th, the qualifying rounds of the 2016 Student Information Security competition took place at the Military Technical Academy in Hanoi, the Ton Duc Thang University in HCMC and at Duy Tan University in Danang ended, attended by many young IT enthusiasts nationwide. 

 

By winning first, second, third and consolation prizes, DTU became the only university in the Central Region to move up to the National finals, to be held in Hanoi on December 2nd.  The 2016 Student Information Security Contest is part of the “Vietnam Information Security Day”, under the theme “The New Era of Cyber Security”. This year’s contest was the biggest ever, with 63 teams from 30 Vietnamese universities. This is the second time a qualifying round of the 2016 Central Region Student Information Security competition has been held in Danang, with 13 teams from the Danang University of Technology, DTU, FPT University, the University of Telecommunications and others competing.

Exam questions in the qualifying round were Jeopardy-type CTFs. For eight hours, teams played hard to win one flag for each correct solution. At the end of the competition, the ISIT - DTU1 team came first by solving seven tests and scoring 1,170 points. The Buff - DTU2 team came second with 870 points and the ISIT-DTU3 team and the FPT Polytechnic team third. The ISIT-DTU4 and ITCMU-DTU teams and the TCU1 team from the University of Telecommunications in Nha Trang won consolation prizes. 

 

The ISIT - DTU1 ranked 3rd and Buff - DTU2 8th amongst the top ten nationwide. 

Participating in the competition for the first time, Nguyen Nhat Hoang of the Buff - DTU2 team, said: “Before competing, we spent three months preparing under the supervision of our DTU lecturers. In the meantime, we also entered the Online Information Security contest to broaden our knowledge and experience. In preparation for the Cyber Security CTF, we will have to fine-tune the responsibilities of team members to optimize our performance.” 

Nguyen Oanh Thuong, of the ISIT-DTU1 team, said: “We have participated in several International Online Information Security contests and discovered that our significant success so far can be attributed to our keen intelligence and teamwork. By entering this competition we now have yet another opportunity to improve our Cyber Security knowledge and broaden our teamwork skills even further.”
