DTU and the P2A Program, On the Road to ASEAN Integration

The determination to build a united ASEAN community by 2015 on schedule has become a big incentive in the development of P2A program, which will provide special opportunities for students to understand other ASEAN cultures. P2A has become the “Promised Land”, with many interesting expeditions for students to explore other countries and get to know each other. As the only Vietnamese institution to join and participate in P2A, DTU has reached a significant milestone in its contribution to the ASEAN community.

The P2A program was co-founded by Rangsit University in Thailand, in conjunction with Norton University in Cambodia, the National University of Laos, the Myanmar Computer Institute and DTU. P2A is now developing a network of ASEAN universities and research institutes, which will help to produce qualified, skilled and knowledgeable workers.

By joining P2A, ASEAN students will enjoy the benefits of an excellent, affordable educational experience. Students will get to appreciate different cultures and respect the similarities and differences between countries. Students will be provided with skills in areas such as environmental protection, the preservation of cultural heritage and recognize the independence, sovereignty, equality and national identities of their partners. They will respect the languages and religions of ASEAN and appreciate their common values in the spirit of unity in diversity.

DTU has made much progress in expanding its comprehensive collaborations with partner universities, taking part in Learning Express, and organizing various programs to foster DTU talents in international competitions.

Ms. Le Nguyen Tue Hang, DTU Vice Provost said: “In the integration of economics, politics, and cultures, as well as providing a special education for students, DTU has attached special importance to preparing their graduates with the basic social concepts to confidently integrate into other international cultures. It is an honor for DTU to become the first university of Vietnam to participate in the P2A program. Learning more about different cultures helps ASEAN and DTU students in particular with strong international career opportunities, according to the motto: 'We Do Everything for Student Rights and Future Careers', as documented by DTU since its early days.”

By visiting http://www.p2a.asia, students will have the chance to take part in several activities, in order to learn about the cultures of the ten ASEAN countries. They will be able to “travel” to these beautiful countries to enjoy a real life experience, participate in intelligent games or immerse themselves in a 3D world of discovery.

DTU has supported the page with ASEAN Game running on iOS and Android phones. The P2A coordinator will update a bank of multichoice questions about various topics, including culture, history, food and so on. When students meet the following criteria, they will receive an ASEAN certificate granted by P2A.

* Take at least three Virtual ASEAN Tours.
* Win the target points of the ASEAN Game.
* Take part in a nine-day excursion in over three ASEAN countries.
* Produce a three-minute video clip summarizing their field-trip.

Mr. Tran Dinh Hoai Bao, Vice-Director of DTU CSE, said: “The ASEAN Game aims to enhance students’ knowledge of the cultures and people of the ten ASEAN countries. It has become an inspiring program for ASEAN members and in other countries around the world.”

“The miniature 3D representations of Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam have been developed as part of the Virtual ASEAN Tour, to introduce Vietnamese culture to ASEAN and the world. Viewers can participate in some exciting folk games and festivals, such as Le Hoi Hoa Dang and Le Hoi Trang Ram”, said Le Van Chung, DTU e-University Vice-Director.

The P2A program is an essential way of promoting the life-long learning education of qualified, skilled and knowledgeable workers, to satisfy current local and international needs. By becoming an official member of P2A, DTU is opening up new educational opportunities for students to collaborate with international partners, to integrate, develop and make “The Duy Tan Dream - Let’s Broaden Our Intellect for a Brighter Future” come true in order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its founding.
