DTU and Singapore Polytechnic students help underprivileged children at Hope Village

On 19 June, 2012, the Handing-over Ceremony for the renovated Rice warehouse and main hall took place at the Hope Village Center of Underprivileged Children. This was an annual activity, where faculty and students are exchanged between Singapore Polytechnic and DTU.

At the ceremony, representatives of Singapore Polytechnic and DTU handed over two renovated buildings worth 67 million VND to Mr. Phan Thanh Vinh, Manager of Hope Village. Eight bicycles and some books were presented to underprivileged children by Singapore Polytechnic students. Those were donated as a result of a fundraising campaign held in Singapore before their visit to Vietnam.

“Providing charitable contributions is an obligation for us as students. I am very happy to work with DTU students to help the unfortunate children in Hope Village. Although we have only spent a short time in Vietnam, these few days will be unforgettable”, said Mr. Joseph Tay of Singapore Polytechnic.

Twenty-two Singapore Polytechnic and many DTU students participated in this significant activity. They spent one week performing charitable work, exchanging their separate cultures and discovering the beauty of famous tourist locations in Danang and Central Vietnam.

At Hope Village, students split into groups to complete the renovations. After decorating the walls, they repainted the windows and cleaned the surrounding areas. Most of the Singapore Polytechnic students were majoring in Architecture, so the renovations did not take them long to finish.

On behalf of DTU, Mr. Pham Phu Anh Huy thanked the manager of Hope Village for providing ideal conditions for the visiting students.

“I am really impressed and proud of the students of both institutions. We often exchange faculty and students to get to know each other and improve relations between Singapore Polytechnic and DTU. I hope that this partnership will last for a long time”, said Mr. Huy at the ceremony.
