Competing with over 500 other videos, “A Dream Comes True”, by Thai Bao Long, Nguyen Dac Nhan and Nguyen Quang Thanh, impressed the judges, not with its words and music, but also by its appropriateness in appealing to people to protect the environment.
On 26th May, 2011, a video called “A Dream Comes True”, filmed by DTU students, was awarded first prize in the short film contest based on climate change, organized by the Vietnamese Students’ Magazine and the EU.

The video was about a poor student Nguyen Quang Thanh, of DTU-K15CMU-TTT, who can’t forget the garbage-ridden streets he sees everyday on his way to school. He decides to print leaflets to appeal to the local people to increase their awareness in protecting the environment. However, not many people care. One night, in his dream, he sees many people suddenly beginning to realize the importance in protecting the environment because of the leaflets. Amazingly, when he wakes up, his dream has come true and he can now see spotless streets, with no garbage at all.
The 5 minute video took the three students one week to complete. Thai Bao Long said: “We had to record many scenes many times to capture best ones. Then, we edited them to make a video of the duration required by the contest”.

The judges also awarded “The Most Creative Message” prize to “The Gluttonous Man” by Ky The Vinh and “The Most Emotive Message” prize” to “The Green” by a group of students from the HCM City Arena Multimedia.
Most of the videos were recorded by digital cameras or mobile phones. The contest was held as part of the “2011 European Days” program and also as an appeal to society to protect the environment.
The video “A Dream Comes True” also won “The Most Impressive Video” in the “Students’ Beauty Through the Lens” contest held by DTU in April, 2011.
