From March 22-24th, seventy representatives from institutes and universities in 19 countries, including: Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Germany, France, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and Vietnam, met in Macau, China for the first “International Conference on Learning and Teaching in Computing and Engineering - LatiCE 2013”.
Forty of eighty-four publications were approved by the organizers to be presented at the conference and published in the IEEE Xplore and IEEE Computer Society magazines. DTU was the only representative from Vietnam and their project entitled “Deployment of the Capstone Project in Software Engineering Education at Duy Tan University, as Part of a University-Wide Project-Based Learning Effort “ authored by Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, Mr. Nguyen Duc Man and Mr. Truong Tien received high acclaim from the attendees.

“It is a remarkable achievement for us to be able to attend the LatiCE Conference to present our project and have it published in the IEEE Xplore magazine. We will make further efforts to submit a high standard project at the next conference”, said Mr. Truong Tien Vu.

As well as participating in the main activities, DTU talked about its remarkable progress over the past 19 years. DTU’s advanced academic partnership with Carnegie Mellon University in the USA and becoming the first Vietnamese member of the CDIO were particularly impressive. Developments in expanding such international relationships have enabled DTU to provide highly-qualified graduates for careers supporting rapidly evolving local and global initiatives.
“In April, we will consider partnering with Monash University in Australia to research ways of improving the quality of I/T education and with the Open University in the UK to develop models and tools to teach programming. In addition, delegations from the Malaysian University of Technology and the National University of Taiwan will visit DTU to investigate future long-term partnerships", added Mr. Vu.
The 2014 LatiCE Conference will be held at the Malaysian University of Technology and the National University of Taiwan will host the conference in 2015. DTU will develop new high-level projects for future conferences.
