DTU Students in Languages and Social Sciences Make Their Mark with Many Awards

The programs in languages and the social sciences at DTU stand out not only for attracting the very best students over the years - with average course scores always above 9/10 - but also for making their mark through academic and extracurricular activities.

From film festivals to intellectual competitions in media, languages - Korean, Japanese, Chinese, English - and law, DTU students demonstrate comprehensive abilities, creativity, and strong global integration.

Best cinematography award for DTU students in Multimedia Communications

The Sunshine team, consisting of ten DTU students in Multimedia Communications, won the “Best Cinematography” award for their short film The Lantern-Making Profession of Hoi An: The Story Behind the Magical “Light” at the 2025 ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (AIFFA) in Kuching, Malaysia. This film was Vietnam’s first entry to reach the nomination round; it ultimately won the contest.

Drawing inspiration from Hoi An ancient town, recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site, the Sunshine team portrayed the enduring journey of artisans who make traditional lanterns, while expressing the younger generation’s desire to promote the beauty and cultural values of Vietnam.

DTU students won “Best Cinematography” at AIFFA 2025

All studying Multimedia Communications, the students in the Sunshine team flexibly and creatively applied the knowledge they had learned in class to turn their idea into reality. From cinematography, composition, lighting, scriptwriting, and storyboarding from television production courses, to skills such as interviewing, storytelling, and character development from specialized subjects - they integrated everything skillfully to make their film.

Just like students in Multimedia Communications, DTU students in Journalism and in Public Relations study in an environment with modern facilities where they can create visually compelling media products and innovative ideas. With close guidance from local experts, they have earned more than a few awards. The DTU Graphics Center and Silver Swallows Studio (SSS) on campus are always ready to lend their competent support for skills training in cinematography, photography, post-production, and production. They can provide all necessary equipment for filming, image processing, 3D, motion capture, and cutting-edge techniques in filmmaking, along with a professional studio, rooms for sound recording and processing, a post-production room, and a VFX lab. These resources allow students to fully develop their skills and knowledge in:

-    broadcasting,
-    online journalism,
-    event organization,
-    communication message design,
-    media crisis management, and
-    film & television production.
