On March 16the final round of the 6th English Language Debate Contest for DTU students took place. Featuring timely and practical topics, the 11 most outstanding students selected after passing the preliminary rounds engaged in incredibly captivating and dramatic debates.
In January 2016, the first DTU English Language Debate Contest was successfully held under the supervision of Prof. Barbara G. Howell, a Senior Lecturer from Lorain Community College (Ohio, USA). The contest provided DTU students with good opportunity to enhance English debate skills and improved useful "soft" skills, including public speaking.
Professor. Barbara G. Howell speaks
Professor. Barbara G. Howell said: "Welcome to the world of debate. Welcome to a place where we learn together, respect each other, and present reliable and accurate information. Do people around the world all share the same opinions? Of course not. That's one of the advantages of debate. We learn to think, to debate well, and to maintain friendships while debating. Hopefully, the 6th English Language Debate Contest will continue to provide DTU students with great opportunities to practise English and make friends."
