The 2024 Vietnam University Rankings (VNUR-2024, Viet Nam's University Rankings) were recently announced, showing significant changes within the top 100.
On January 19, an independent research group led by Professor Nguyen Loc and 5 colleagues published the second Vietnam University Rankings. The rankings first debuted in 2023.
Compared to the Top 10 in 2023, 9 higher education institutions continued to be in the top 10 of the 2024 Vietnam University Rankings (VNUR-2024). Notably, the University of Commerce entered the top 10 for the first time, with a remarkable leap of 27 places to rank 8th.

Among them, 6 higher education institutions have maintained their positions, including: Hanoi National University, HCM City National University, Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, DTU, and HCM City University of Economics.
Specifically, Hue University has moved out of the leading group to position 11.
Notably, up to 16 higher education institutions have dropped out of the top 100 of VNUR-2024. The rankings of these institutions in VNUR-2023 ranged from 65 to 100.
Public higher education institutions still make up the majority in the top 100 of VNUR-2024, accounting for 83% even though there is a decrease of one institution compared to 2023, while private higher education institutions account for 17%.
In the VNUR-2024 Top 100, there are 36 higher education institutions that have moved up in rank, with increases ranging from 1 to 52 places. Within this group, the institution with the most significant rise is the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with an increase of 52 ranks.
There are 41 higher education institutions that have moved down in rank compared to the VNUR-2023 Top 100, with decreases ranging from 1 to 42 places. Along with this, there are 7 higher education institutions that have maintained their ranking position compared to 2023.

According to the research team, VNUR-2024 reviewed all 237 Vietnamese higher education institutions by processing big data, which includes public reports, admission projects, and ranking data from global rankings like QS, THE, ARWU.
Other criteria include: Accreditation by the MOET, QS Stars and UPM ratings, data from Web of Science (WOS) and SCOPUS over a 5-year period (2019-2023), data on scientific and technological activities and inventions from the Ministry of Science and Technology, data on prestigious scientific journals from the State Council of Professors, data on copyrighted electronic document databases, along with selectively referenced information from other credible sources.
In total, there are 193 institutions with complete data to conduct rankings. The ranking is carried out through a set of 6 standards and 18 criteria selected to comprehensively reflect the fundamental missions of higher education such as training, scientific research, and community service.

The VNUR ranking is considered the first ranking of Vietnamese universities to be published within Vietnam. VNUR is independent in its data compilation and ranking process, without soliciting data submissions from the universities.
