At the ‘Blooming Poland’ painting contest, from October 28 to November 1, Nguyen Anh Tai, a DTU student of Architecture, and Nguyen Huu Phung of Graphic Design, displayed their artworks, created with needle-pen and watercolors. They were exhibited with several other impressive paintings depicting the beauty of Poland. Awards were presented at a ceremony and exhibition at the Nhau Art Studio in Hanoi, sponsored by the Polish Embassy, and the two DTU exhibitors each received consolation prizes.

The “Blooming Poland” contest was aimed at inspiring artists to explore the diversity of the heritage, natural beauty and people of Poland. 173 artists, professional and semi-professional, from 37 provinces and cities across Vietnam participated. Two hundred works were submitted, depicting a diversity of style, techniques and talent honoring the beauty of Poland. This was the second annual contest, following on the successful 2022 event, themed: ‘Poland, a Beautiful and Inspiring Country’.
‘Wet Monday’, by Nguyen Huu Phung, is awarded a consolation prize
The delicate and creative needle-pen and watercolor works from DTU were highly appreciated by the jury, which was composed of famous artists, including Pham Binh Chuong, Nguyen Ngoc Quan, the Polish-Vietnamese Minh Dam, and the Hanoi Watercolor Artists Club Chairman, Nguyen Ngoc Phuong.
Student Nguyen Huu Phung used delicate lines to show a long-standing and beautiful Polish tradition. Her ‘Wet Monday’ painting was inspired by the traditional Polish water festival, smigus-dyngus.

With her ‘Sightseeing in Poland’, Nguyen Anh Tai created a unique picture featuring three iconic architectural works of Poland: the Gothic-style Wawel cathedral; the church of Saint Adalbert; and the Old City of Zamosc. Combining harmonious colors and compositional consistency, ‘Sightseeing in Poland’ highlighted the beauty of these Polish landmarks.

DTU was the only university to win prizes at the contest, recognizing the students’ capabilities and a testament to the high quality of the Art education available there.
“This is a major competition that brings together both professional and semi-professional artists from all over the country,” explained Nguyen Anh Tai. “I’m extremely happy with my prize today, which required a basic knowledge of painting and fine arts, supplemented by online research into facts on Polish architecture. When complete, I was able to integrate three works at three different locations into one composition. Ultimately, I met several famous Vietnamese artists and was fortunate enough to be invited by two of the judges to join a group of watercolor painters, and hold exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad in 2024. This is a rare and valuable opportunity that few students ever get.”
