Duy Tan University won five gold and bonze medals at the 2023 National Swimming & Diving Championships. 150 of the strongest swimmers from ten provinces and cities competed in 43 events, including several members of the national team.

Nguyen Huu Kim Son, from DTU, represents the Danang swimming team. He and his teammates performed well and brought several valuable medals back home to the city:
- A gold medal in the 4 × 100 m medley
- A gold medal in the 4 × 100 m front crawl
- A gold medal in the 4 × 200 m front crawl
- A bronze medal in the mixed 4 × 200 m freestyle
- A bronze medal in the 100 m individual breaststroke

The Danang swimming team finished in fourth position this year, although it was the first time they had remained undefeated in all three relays at the championships, with Kim Son competing in all three.
On his return, Kim Son said: “Our success is due the hard work of the entire team and the diligent guidance of our coaches. Meanwhile, I want to thank our DTU lecturers for supporting us during practice sessions and the actual competition. As I need to travel far for training, I am always happy that my lecturers and classmates are always available to answer my questions, which helps me understand the lessons better while away.”

In previous years, Kim Son competed in many international swimming events. At the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia in 2017, at the age of 15, he won a gold in the men’s 400 m medley in 4:22.12, which broke the SEA Games previous record of 14 years. As a result, he became the first male swimmer to win a gold medal for Vietnam.
In 2019, at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines, Kim Son went on to win two bronze medals in individual events for Vietnam, and, at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam in 2021, he won one gold and two silver medals. Most recently, at the 32nd SEA Games, held in Cambodia in 2023, Kim Son won one gold and one silver medal.
In October this year, another DTU student, Nguyen Pham Hoai Yen, won a gold in women’s pole vault with a jump of 3.80 m at the 47th National Athletics Championship, at the National Military Training Center 4 in Hanoi. Also the DTU women’s volleyball team came second at the 2023 Central Vietnam National Student Volleyball Tournament, and qualified to compete in the national finals in November in Hanoi.
