On June 16, DTU held a commendation ceremony to recognize Nguyen Huu Kim Son and Le Thi Nhi for their significant contribution to Vietnam at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. The university also praised other young DTU athletes who excelled at the Games, following the example set by Ho Chi Minh.
Swimmer Nguyen Huu Kim Son and Kickboxer Le Thi Nhi
Nguyen Huu Kim Son is a swimmer and a first year Business Administration student. He and his teammates won a gold medal in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay and a silver in the men’s 1500 m freestyle race. Kickboxer Le Thi Nhi, a first-year student of Cultural Tourism, won a gold in the women’s 50 kg lightweight category. Hero of Labor and Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President, congratulated them both and awarded Certificates of Merit in recognition of their accomplishments at the games.

“I went to Hungary with my teammates for ninety days of training,” said Kim Son. “During training, I was unable to attend DTU, but received the full support of my lecturers and classmates, who sent me lecture materials and recordings. I was also able to participate in some of the other subjects online. They always do their best to help me which proves that deciding to study at DTU is absolutely the right choice.”
Kim Son had previously won several gold medals in other sports events, with gold medals at the 29th SEA Games in 2017 and at the 31st in 2022. He was only 15 years old at the 2017 games in Malaysia, and surprised everyone when he won the men’s 400 m individual medley in 4:22.12, which broke the previous SEA Games record of 4:23.20, set by Ratapong Sirisanont from Thailand, at the 2003 SEA Games in Vietnam.
DTU praises athletes following in Ho Chi Minh’s footsteps
Le Thi Nhi also has a remarkable record. She won a bronze medal in kickboxing at the 31st SEA Games in 2022; a silver medal at the National Kickboxing Championship in 2019, and golds in 2020 and 2021; and a gold and a silver medals in the Youth Kickboxing Tournament in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
Awards were presented by the DTU Board of Provosts to:
- Tran Thi Phuong, a K25 General Medicine student, who won an “Advanced young athlete following Ho Chi Minh’s example at the city level” award
- The K25YDK1 team from the Faculty of Medicine
- The K26YDR3 class of Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology
