The DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities has created an advanced strategic plan to educate the very best future journalists, diplomats and linguists in Vietnam. In 2023, the various activities organized by the English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Press and Media Clubs will benefit incoming freshmen.
In the era of global integration, DTU offers a variety of minors in foreign languages to broaden future career prospects for graduates, including:
- English for Translation and Interpretation, English for Tourism, Business English
- Chinese for Translation and Interpretation, Chinese for Tourism, Business Chinese
- Korean for Translation and Interpretation, Korean for Tourism, Business Korean
- Japanese for Translation and Interpretation, Japanese for Tourism, Japanese Business
- Advanced English, Chinese, Korean and Japanese (CLC) programs
- International Relations in English, Japanese and Chinese
Learning foreign languages and about new cultures has rapidly become a trend in Vietnam. DTU partners internationally to invite foreign lecturers to teach and conduct research at DTU in Danang, including Mr. Corbett Tyler from America; Ms. Katie Ann Couse from Canada; Mr. Campana Rhea Balbero and Ms. Viernes Pamela Dy from the Philippines; Ms. Cheng Hongxia and Ms. Li Xia from China; Ms. Kim Zaehi from Korea; and Ms. Emiko Kuwata and Mr. Murase Seiji from Japan, and continues to expand relations with companies, administrative and judicial agencies, courts and law offices, to increase internship and job opportunities.
Students are now able to participate in study and cultural exchange programs with the University of Nevada, in Las Vegas (USA); Busan University of Foreign Studies, (BUFS); Okayama Shoka University (Japan) and through the ASEAN Internship Exchange Program (SEA-TVET). In addition, DTU has signed partnership agreements with the British Council, the Taiwan Trade Association in Danang; the Japan Study Abroad Fund (JOOSS) and MBC Television (Korea), for similar reasons.
The Digital Revolution has now opened up several new opportunities and challenges, and students must be fully prepared to master all types of media applications and work professionally, flexibly and independently to keep up with change. At the start of an era of media dominance, Literature & Journalism and Multimedia Communications majors are becoming increasingly sought after by employers.
The DTU Press & Media Club, DTU JC Chance and the DTU Silver Swallows Studio (SSS) are all located on campus and equipped with the latest film production facilities, including a film studio, an audio processing and recording studio and a VFX room, where Journalism & Communications majors can perfect their skills.
During Moot Courts, held in the classroom, students learn about the daily responsibilities of a lawyer and court procedures. Seminars and research activities are held regularly with legal experts, including one entitled “Students with Intellectual Property Rights,” a faculty-level Scientific Student Research conference, and the “Be the best you can be” speaking contest, in conjunction with the Young Lawyers’ Club.
As a result, DTU has received an ever-increasing number of applications from high-scoring HSGE students, and many of them choose to enroll in the DTU School of Foreign Languages & Humanities. One of them was Ly Thi Men, with a score of 29.75, who began studying Business Law (HP) in 2021, and Ðinh Th? Hoài Nhi with 29.5 points who was admitted to the DTU International Relations program (HP), in 2022.
DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities students have achieved the following:
- Trinh Vo Hoan Ny came third in the 2022 Chinese Debating contest, held in Danang
- The K-POP Club won third prize for their dance performance of "Stay This Way" and an Impression Award for the song "Breathe".
- The DTU White Knights came third in the 2022 National English Olympiad
- Huynh Van Quy won a People’s Choice Award at the virtual Logo20 Art Design exhibition
- Vo Hoai Nam was awarded a consolation prize in “The Story of Plastic Waste” contest
- Võ Th? Thuong finished in the top 5 at the 2022 Miss Tourism Danang, was in the top 15 in the Miss Grand Vietnam contest in 2022, won the “Best Catwalk” and finished in the top 20, in the Miss World Vietnam contest in 2022
With innovative educational programs, focusing on teaching professional skills, DTU has been boosting the ambitions of new students, who want to major in foreign languages, the humanities, and social sciences. The rapid growth and popularity of these fields at DTU in 2023 will influence the choice of potential applicants.
