On December 21, a book donation ceremony, in association with the Read Japan project, took place at DTU. Attendees were Ms. Teramoto, the Danang Consul of Culture and Economy at the Consulate General of Japan; Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, DTU Vice-Provost; foreign language lecturers and students.

Ms. Teramoto said: “The Read Japan project was initiated in 2008 by the Nippon Foundation, to promote an understanding of Japanese society and culture in educational institutions and libraries around the world. So far, we have donated books to 1,100 foreign universities. The Consulate General in Danang recommended DTU and is also collaborating with other local schools who wish to participate in our program. We are delighted that so many young people in Danang are interested in Japan and are making the effort to study our language. All the books are in written in English, so they should prove useful for those who are studying Japanese or any other language.”

The Consulate General of Japan in Danang first suggested that DTU should contact the Nippon Foundation to register for the Read Japan project. After completing the necessary procedures, the Faculty of Japanese Language received eighty books. They cover the history, geography, traditional art and folklore of Japan and students will be able to discover and experience the beauty of the culture and people from the land of the cherry blossom.
Dr. Hoang Thi Huong, Vice-Provost of the DTU School of Foreign Languages, said: “On behalf of the DTU School of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Japanese Language, I would like to express my appreciation to the Consulate General of Japan in Danang, who helped our library to add your books and manage their distribution to all our students. In the future we hope to collaborate with you on other projects, to share and improve our mutual understanding of both cultures.”
