Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, a member of the Spanish National Research Lab, has just published their January 2022 rankings of universities worldwide, showing several changes among Vietnam’s ten leading universities since July 2021. 178 Vietnamese establishments were named in this year’s list.
The Top 10 Vietnamese universities, with the top 3 unchanged
The Top 10 Vietnamese universities:

Three universities maintaining their top-three ranking of leading Vietnamese universities. Vietnam National University – Hanoi (VNU) remained its first rank in Vietnam and climbed 15 places to rank 944th worldwide. The second to third places respectively belonged to Ton Duc Thang University in the 1,074th position and Duy Tan University, 1, 255th in this year's ranking.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology ranked 1,322nd; and Vietnam National University HCMC University of Technology 2,871st internationally.
VNUHCMC University of Technology fell nationally, from 4th to 5th (1,744th worldwide), HCMC University of Industry from 5th to 6th (1,884 worldwide) and University of Danang fell nationally, from 6th to 9th (2,338th internationally).
The Hanoi University of Science and Technology rosed from 7th to 4th (1,322 globally) and University of Economics HCMC from 9th to 8th (2, 320 worldwide)

Notably, Nguyen Tat Thanh University moved up 30 places to enter Top 10 (ranked 7th nationally and 1,993 worldwide. HCMC University of Technology and Education, at 10th and 2,781st. Two universities disappearing from the top 10 this year were Hue University, coming 12th and 3,089th worldwide and the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, at 13th and 3,140th internationally.
Other private universities ranked by Webometrics are: VinUni: 62nd in Vietnam and 9900 worldwide; RMITH Vietnam: 36th and 6,219; HUTECH: 45th and 7,102nd; FPT: 50th and 8,189th; Van Lang University: 59th and 9,715th; and Hoa Sen University: 74th and 11,385 respectively.

Since 2004, the Webometrics Ranking is published twice a year, currently using the following measurement factors:
- Impact (or Visibility): (50%): Number of external networks (subnets) linking to the institution's webpages. Data is collected from Ahref and Majestic.
- Openness or (Transparency): (10%): Number of citations from the main authors by Google Scholar citations.
- Excellence: (40%): Number of papers in the top 10% most cited.
