All DTU Students Graduating in Specialized Majors Are Guaranteed Immediate Full-time Employment

Recently, DTU has reported that all graduates in most majors find work immediately or are even hired in advance, during their final year at university. Potential applicants aim to select a university with a suitable major that fulfils their needs and ambitions and, most importantly, one that guarantees fast, full-time employment. At DTU this is now possible, due to many years focusing on innovative ways of improving the standard of education at the university and through comprehensive and sustainable internship arrangements and full-time job opportunities with local companies.

Architecture, Construction, Environment: Few graduates, many vacancies, excellent remuneration

Several years ago, it was extremely difficult to find a job in these three fields, but today the need for staff has skyrocketed. Previously, Vietnamese universities probably educated too many of these students, creating a surplus of potential workers and leaving many graduates unemployed or switching to careers in unrelated, more attractive professions.

DTU students of Architecture & Construction study creatively to be able to work well after graduation

Since then, however, times have changed, and supply is now suddenly severely lacking. DTU students are well-aware of this and are working hard to qualify for the hundreds of vacancies at local companies, including some alumni businesses, who have signed agreements with DTU to accept students for potential internships and jobs, including:

- Jibannet Asia (Japan)
- VACS (Japan)
- An Cuong Corp. (Vietnam)
- VICO Corp. (Vietnam)
- CDC Design (Vietnam)

As a result, all DTU Architecture and Interior Design graduates are guaranteed immediate employment, and several find their dream jobs even before that. Pham Quang Luan secured a job at the LTH.Design Construction Consultancy during his fourth year, won the “Well-Rounded” prize at the 2018 Architecture Festival, is now working on residential design projects in HCMC, Danang and on a homestay in Dalat.

The Construction industry is also in dire need of staff. The Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations states that there are a total of 78,000 construction companies in Vietnam and foresee that half a million additional workers will be required, including 20,000 civil engineers, every year. However, they believe that Vietnamese universities are now unable to meet the increasingly specialized demand.

Even though the small to medium-sized businesses owned by DTU alumni require up to a hundred graduates a year, they can only find about forty qualified new staff. The six universities in Danang currently graduate 580 engineers per year, which is insufficient to even meet demand in Central Vietnam alone.

Despite all this, DTU Construction graduates are usually hired into excellent positions, and feedback from employers reports that they are thoroughly educated and skilled, communicate well in foreign languages, can manage their work well and do not require any retraining before beginning their new jobs.

DTU graduates have a significant advantage because of the DTU partnerships with California State University Fullerton, one of the leading public universities in Civil Engineering on the US West Coast, and with California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, one of the top five in Architecture in the US. As a result, DTU implemented the first advanced Architecture & Construction programs in Central Vietnam.

DTU students have won several first prizes at the 2020 Architecture Festival and second prizes at the 2018 Loa Thanh Awards, and are also recognized for their other achievements, including:

- The Champion’s Cup in the 14th Asia-Pacific “Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools” (IDEERS) competition, in Taiwan
- At the 15th Loa Thanh awards, for the best graduation projects
- Prizes at the Architecture Festival, Green Architecture contest and the National Mechanics Olympiad

A living testimony to the quality and ability of DTU students

Currently, new DTU Architecture and Civil Engineering graduates can expect to earn between 10 and 15 million VND per month with increases to 20 to 30 million with additional experience. After ten years, salaries may rise to 30 to 40 million, with executives involved in large project management activities making up to 70 to 100 million.

Environmental Science graduates receive 10 to 12 million VND per month, an income which cannot be matched for those who majored in other disciplines. Over the past three years, all graduates found jobs at the many companies recruiting, including:

- MD Environmental Technology (Quang Ngai)
- EUC LLC (Binh Duong)
- Wordtech (Danang)
- Nam Da Thanh (Danang)
- Nhat Thanh Vinh (Danang)

Students of Environmental Sciences do practical work to contribute to environmental protection

Environmental Science graduates work in a wide variety of jobs as:

- Occupational safety specialists
- Environmental design engineers or monitoring specialists
- Water and solid waste treatment operations engineers
- Environmental consultants

An Environmental Science education at DTU can be differentiated from studies elsewhere because the DTU lecturers combine their teaching tasks with various research projects, enabling them to apply their expertise to solving real-life environmental issues. These include the treatment of domestic wastewater, wastewater from textile dying, and aquaculture wastewater. DTU has also been involved in an assessment of the marine environment after the Formosa pollution incident and, most recently, researching and advising the Danang city authorities on vital local issues, such as landslides, beach erosion, groundwater salinization and water availability during the dry season. Students are encouraged to participate in these research activities to broaden their practical knowledge during their studies.

Software Engineering & Information Security: Popular majors, despite the pandemic

Specific fields underwent significant development during the pandemic, whilst others stagnated. However, average salaries for AI engineers have meanwhile risen to about 45 million VND, in blockchain to 43 million. big data to 39 million and in data science to 38 million, according to a Human Resource Market in Technology survey. Students of these majors in Vietnam can be assured that they will find employment, as the demand for newly qualified professionals is overwhelming.

Software Engineering graduates can initially earn up to 27 to 30 million per month, while average jobs pay 12 to 15 million. Employers are prepared recruit and pay high salaries but admit that: “The biggest issue today is that the quality of human resources and the recruitment and training processes are not nearly meeting the ever-increasing demand, causing significant problems and impeding business development.”

DTU offers three Software Engineering majors:

- Software Engineering
- CMU-standard Software Engineering, with American ABET accreditation
- Games & Multimedia Design

The two Information Security majors are:

- Network Engineering, with American ABET accreditation
- CMU-standard Network Security
All graduates in these majors have been guaranteed employment for several years now and DTU works with established local companies to offer students internships and job opportunities, including MGM; BAP; CodeComplete; FPT Software; Enclave; LogiGear; Axon Active; LG, DAC Tech, Sun*; Viettel; VNPT-IT; TMA; KMS; Global SyberSoft; RikkeiSoft; Saigon Technology Solutions; Data House; and VnCert. The best students are even recruited before graduation.

The reputation of the DTU graduates is partly based their accomplishments as students, for example:

- The 21 course completion certificates awarded by Carnegie-Mellon University, a DTU partner in the sharing of advanced and international curricula over the past ten years
- Winning the CDIO Academy Champion’s Cup in 2016 in Finland and in Canada in 2017
- A first prize at the 2018 DevFest Hackathon, with the “Community Map” project
- A second prize at the 2018 IdeaHunter contest for the country’s most skilled students and programmers, with their “Facebook Fan Page Management” submission
- The ISITDTU information security team have led in Vietnam for several years now and are ranked 58th in the world by CTFTime.

Ngo Viet Hoang graduated in Software Engineering and works for Google in the USA; Nguyen Thi Duong Truc graduated in Management Information Systems and is now a software tester at FPT Software; and Do Bao Linh is a software engineer at NTT Data, jobs that most students can only dream of.
