DTU was recently highly-ranked in the QS, CWUR, URAP, Webometrics and Shanghai ranking systems and made its first appearance in the 2021 edition of the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), published by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. The university’s Electrical & Electronic Engineering major was ranked in the 401-500 band but number one in Vietnam, Computer Science was ranked 301-400 and Mathematics 401-500.
The DTU Electrical & Electronic Engineering major, ranked 401-500 worldwide
The rankings were the result of the university's focus on accrediting the quality of education at DTU, promoting international partnerships and strengthening research and development in several disciplines, especially in Engineering and Technology.
The DTU Electrical & Electronic Engineering Shanghai ranking was based on:
- The quality of the education programs and facilities
- Shared advanced international programs regularly updated by the partner universities, Purdue Northwest University for example, who also train DTU lecturers
- Continuing research activities in the field, including the recent publication of a DTU journal entitled “EAI Endorsed Transactions on Industrial Networks and Intelligent Systems”, which has been added to the SCOPUS database by the Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB), the first published by an institution in the Central region.
The DTU Electrical and Electronic Engineering program obtained ABET accreditation
Several DTU programs have now received ABET accreditation, the "gold standard" for Technology and Engineering education in the US. Actually, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) course was officially recognized by ABET in August 2020 and met all the necessary accreditation criteria, based on the findings of an inspection visit to DTU in November 2019.

Dr. Ha Dac Binh, Provost of the DTU School of Engineering & Technology (SET) explained: “The Electrical & Electronic Engineering programs accredited by ABET are a measure of the education quality of the DTU Faculty of Electrical Engineering and enables us to compete in international technology and engineering contests. Our students benefit from the highest quality of education, advanced curricula and study materials, taught by expert lecturers, in a modern infrastructure with reasonable tuition fees. Accredited Vietnamese universities have a huge advantage integrating into the global education and labor marketplace.”
Studying shared Purdue Northwest University curricula
Several years ago, DTU partnered with Purdue Northwest University, one of the ten leading universities in technology & engineering in the US, to develop advanced programs in Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics, to share curricula and offer graduation certificates, in order to meet the rapidly increasing international demand for expert engineers.

ABET remarked that: “Duy Tan University has adopted education programs based on an interdisciplinary approach to enable students to gain practical knowledge by proactively exploring challenges and solving real-world problems. The international CDIO (Conceive - Design - Implement - Operate) teaching method is used in engineering education at DTU, which provides engineering graduates with the basic engineering principles. The program has integrated the five supplementary standards CDIO and the DTU lecturers have been able to demonstrate their capabilities in their outstanding presentations at international CDIO conferences, with students equally well-prepared to showcase their design-implement projects”.
Based on the strength of its traditional majors, such as Telecommunications, Electrical Automation and Mechatronics, DTU is now offering new majors to meet the needs of the expanding workplace in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Automation & Control Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Automotive Electro-Mechanics
- Automotive Mechanics
DTU Electrical Engineering students work in state-of-the-art research laboratories
Vehicle Electro-Mechanics and Electrical Engineering are two of the new majors, developed from the existing Power Systems and Renewable Energy programs. Electrical Engineering graduates can be employed at hydroelectric, thermal, wind and solar power plants, load dispatch centers, and in power system operations in factories, industrial parks and office buildings.
ShanghaiRanking at Universities Worldwide
The ShanghaiRanking higher education intelligence consultancy began ranking academic programs internationally in 2009, is unaffiliated with all universities and government agencies and considered a world leader, together with the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education organizations.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) index was first published in 2017. GRAS 2021 ranks 1,800 out of 4,000 universities in 93 countries, in 54 Natural Science, Engineering, Life Science, Medical Science and Social Science categories. The GRAS rankings employ a wide range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, according to:
- Research output (Q1)
- Research influence (CNCI)
- International collaboration (IC),
- Research quality (Top)
- The quantity of Nobel and field prizes won
The index of international academic awards is based on the Academic Excellence Survey (AES), conducted by ShanghaiRanking since 2017. By February 2021, 1,000 professors from the leading universities worldwide have participated. Their responses indicated that they have published papers in 164 top journals, in 48 subjects, 32 major awards in 27 subjects and won 26 conference awards in Computer Science & Engineering alone.
