The “FWD - Food Waste Disposer” advances to the Hult Prize Southeast-Asia Region finals

On December 20, ten teams competed in the qualifying round of the 2021 Hult Prize on Campus contest at DTU. Winners advanced to the Southeast-Asia Region event.

Attendees included Mr. Vo Duc Anh, Deputy-Head of the Technology Management at the Danang Department of Science & Technology; Dr. Vu Xuan Truong, Director of the Danang Entrepreneurship Support (DNES); Mr. Phan The Duc, Central Region Manager of the TOPPION Group; Mr. Dang Cong Linh, Director of the Sunday Corporation; Mr. Dang Minh Duong, Chairman of the DTU Business Alumni Club; Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, DTU Vice-Provost; Dr. Tran Nhat Tan, Director of the DTU Quality Assessment Center; Mr. Nguyen Duc Kien, Vice-Director of the DTU Startup Center, and DTU students. 
 
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said: “This is the second year the Hult Prize contest has been held at DTU, and it promises to be another exciting opportunity for teams to win attractive prizes. Let us hope that the DTU students will enjoy themselves and come up with practical and economic projects to solve the food crisis.”
 
Themed “Food for Good”, the 2021 competition attracted young participants from 100 countries, including former contestants, to devise start-up models to revitalize the food industry, our most vital of all resources. This year, teams were required to develop businesses that generate employment, boost the economy and re-establish food supply chains, as well as changing public perception about the importance of good nutrition.
 
The 10 intriguing new startup projects were: “AforD - eCommerce in agriculture”: “VNV - Vietnamese Vegetables”; “Lua Nuoc - Rice straw”; “GÔDY - Goody minimart”; “Convenient Banh Mi - Bread vending machine”; “F&F - Health Application”; “Happy Truck”; “Happy Mask of bagasse sugarcane”; “Medical Food”; and “FWP - Food Waste Disposer”. Each team presented their project and answered the jury’s questions.

- “FWD - Food Waste Disposer” won “the most outstanding project” prize
- “Rice straw” won “the project with the most potential” prize
- “Happy Mask of bagasse sugarcane” won the People’s Choice prize
 
The “FWD - Food Waste Disposer” project, by Nguyen Van Hoang Long, Pham Khac Minh Duc of Electrical Engineering and Nguyen Minh Huy from Business Administration, will represent DTU in the Hult Prize Southeast Asia Region contest, and then the three best teams will be eligible to travel to a one-month international Accelerator Program in London, in July and August 2021.
