Eleven Vietnamese Universities in the QS Asia University Rankings 2021

The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) just announced its 2021 ranking of the leading universities in Asia. Vietnam has eleven institutions in the list, including: the National University HCMC, the National University Hanoi, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Hanoi University of Science & Technology, Duy Tan University (DTU), Hue University, the University of Danang, Can Tho University, the Hanoi National University of Education, the Industrial University of HCMC, and the University of Economics HCMC. Three are ranked for the first time: the Hanoi National University of Education, the Industrial University of HCMC, and the University of Economics HCMC.

As such, of the 237 universities in Vietnam, 4.64% appear in this organization’s regional ranking.
 
Besides several universities that went down, many improved their rankings. For example: TDTU is number 163 (up 44 places compared to its 2020 ranking of 207); DTU is in the 351–400 range (up almost a hundred places from the 451–500 range in 2020); Hue University and the University of Danang are together in the 401–500 range (Hue University went up from its 451–500 position in 2020.) 
 
The Hanoi National University of Education is in the 551–600 range and the Industrial University of HCMC and the University of Economics HCMC are in the 601+ range. TDTU went up 128 positions in just two years, the fastest rise in Vietnam and among the universities with most impressive improvement in Asia.
 
The QS Asia University Rankings are based on 11 metrics with different weights: academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty/student ratio (10%), ratio of faculty holding PhD degrees (5%), publications per faculty (5%), citations per publication (10%), international research network (10%), international faculty (2.5%), international students (2.5%), domestic exchange students (2.5%), and exchange students overseas (2.5%).
