Tran Khanh Linh: Be proactive choosing a university and career
Tran Khanh Linh, a student from the Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted in Quang Nam province, scored 8.5 in Literature in the 2018 National High School Exam though this year’s Literature exam was quite difficult. She also scored 8.5 in History and 8.75 in Geography. Linh comes from a farming family, so she has worked diligently to obtain the necessary scores to win a DTU scholarship.
She said: “This year’s Literature exam was interesting, requiring students to know a lot about literature, combined with a sound understanding of social issues. Most difficult was the discussion section, differentiating between students’ ability to develop new ideas, be receptive, and explain their viewpoints on current, critical social issues. The exam measures the student’s interest, understanding and personal responsibility in facing the challenges and opportunities confronting the nation. Literature is my favorite subject, so I was quite confident that I would achieve a high score.”
Tran Thi Yen Thuong: Dreaming of working in the Hospitality sector
Tran Thi Yen Thuong, from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, explained her choice of university: “Researching overseas scholarships in advance, while still at high school, is quite common these days,” she said. “I want to study in a country with a well-developed education system to learn more and broaden my career prospects. However, I still need to be near my family to finish growing up and because they are unable to finance a foreign education, although that was my dream. I was unhappy until my classmates told me about DTU’s On-Site Study-Abroad program in Tourism & Hospitality Management, with a degree granted by Troy University. I was lucky enough to have quite high grades, which earned me a full scholarship for the entire course. Nothing could be better than staying in Vietnam and studying in an advanced and international program with an American degree. I am completely happy now.”
