Technology and Engineering Education at DTU

Startup opportunities while still studying are higher in technology majors than in other fields. One can say this because students in these majors come in contact with technology, can experiment with new products in modern laboratories, and are supported by talented lecturers when still at university, such that they can launch and start selling a new and useful product in the bat of an eye.

To succeed therein, however, high school graduates should be really astute and wise in their choice of university and go for a place that can guarantee the workforce, facilities, and spirit of innovation that can support them. As shown by the CDIO Academy champions’ cup year after year; runner-ups in the 2016 “Go Green in the City” East Asia regional contest; first, second, and third prizes in the contest to display fireworks on a computer; information technology (IT) students ranking 40th worldwide and 2nd in Vietnam in the CTFTime ranking; outstanding female student in IT; and lately the Smart Car Box project by several DTU students which won the People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Asia Imagine Cup and which Microsoft determined to be a “valuable” product with business potential, DTU is the most suitable choice for high school graduates whose professional goal is to start their own businesses.

DTU’s Faculty of Information Technology offers four majors:

- Network Engineering (/ Network Security)
- Software Engineering
- Management Information Systems
- Big Data & Machine Learning

The US is always one of the leading countries in IT development, and universities there make significant contributions educating the top IT professionals. That is why DTU selected Carnegie Mellon University, one of the leading US universities in IT decided to share their international programs and use them as the foundation for the education of DTU IT students.

The results of that decision are now obvious. Year-by-year, the ratio of DTU IT graduates finding employment is always the highest of all majors, with 94% of all graduates landing jobs within three months of graduation, and 100% of those from the special CMU program.

In 2018, the DTU Faculty of IT announced a new major, Big Data & Machine Learning, in response to an increasing potential business demand for specialists understanding how to exploit and analyze data.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers five majors:

- Embedded Systems
- Electrical Automation
- Telecommunications
- Mechatronics (PNU standard)
- Electrical Engineering (PNU standard)

DTU has created a special study environment, with special labs where Electrical Engineering students can concentrate creatively on their studies and research. They are able to experiment with practical assembly and welding tasks to fully prepare themselves for the first days in their future jobs. The Basic Electronics Laboratory, the Electric Machinery Laboratory, the Advanced PCB Line, and the Robotics Laboratory have seen the creation of several impressive “made in DTU” products, such as a robot that guides pedestrians across the street, which was awarded the Young Innovation prize by the Youth Union. They also produced a smart condom dispenser, already in experimental use in several public locations in Danang, as well as winning first, second and third prizes at the National Physics and Mechanics Olympiads.

The Faculty of Environmental and Chemical Engineering offers three majors:

- Environmental Technology & Engineering
- Resource & Environmental Management
- Food Technology

The DTU Environmental majors are quite unique because lecturers take their students out in the field to conduct research. In this way, they achieve a clearer practical understanding of specialized environments, allowing them to come up with solutions to specific problems. The lecturers are especially interested in researching recent issues, such as seawater quality, following the Formosa incident, and are also investigating the cause of the serious beach erosion in Danang in 2017.

This dynamic educational method has produced some highly knowledgeable and creative students and significant prizes from the Faculty of Environmental and Chemical Engineering. These include the Champions Cup, with a first and second prize at the 2013 CDIO Academy contest at Harvard University and MIT, runners-up in the 2016 “Go Green in the City” East Asia regional contest and a first prize at the 2017 contest for local environmentally friendly solutions, with their Mini-Generator, which uses a battery to produce electricity from urine.

In 2018, DTU awards the following scholarships to Technology and Engineering applicants:

- Talent Scholarships : 10 full and 10 partial scholarships per major for enrollees in Big Data & Machine Learning.  Enrollees with High School Graduation Examination scores of 24 or more will be granted full scholarships. Enrollees with High School Graduation Examination  scores  of 22 or more will be granted partial scholarships.
- 15 scholarships of 20 million vnd each, from the Boeing Aircraft Company for enrollees in the advanced CMU program.
- 10 scholarships of 10 million vnd each, from Purdue Northwest University (PNU) to students enrolled in PNU Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics programs.
 - 2,400 other scholarships, including:
