DTU began offering a major in Odontoid-Stomatology in 2018. Over the past ten years, programs in Nursing, Pharmacy, General Practitioner, and an international-level Master of Nursing course in collaboration with Fooyin University, Taiwan have also been introduced.
Dental disease is common at all ages and in all regions, and large numbers of specialists are required for timely diagnoses and treatment. In Vietnam, however, the workforce in this field suffers severe shortages. In developed countries, there is one odontoid-stomatologist per one to two thousand people. In Asian countries however there is an average of only one per five thousand and in Vietnam one per twenty-five thousand.
In 2016, the 7th International Conference on Odontoid-Stomatology Research and Training, at the School of Odontoid-Stomatology of the Hanoi Medical University, reported that there are many areas with no dental care whatsoever, due to a complete lack of dentists. DTU will address this issue in Central Vietnam with the new Odontoid-Stomatology major.
Health Sciences at DTU are supported by the Ministry of Health and other universities collaborate
The new major will benefit from the international collaborations and facilities carefully developed over the years. DTU already partners with two US universities:

- DTU has built a series of 28 standardized medical labs and practice rooms and the Center of Visualization & Simulation (CVS) to develop 3D virtual reality simulation applications to improve teaching methods on the human body. The application won the first 2016 Young Intellectuals for Education prize at the 2017 Vietnamese Talent Awards, and was recently honored at the 2018 Sao Khue awards.
