From March 19th to 31st, fifty senior students from the DTU Faculty of Architecture and California Polytechnic participated in a special class under the supervision of two architects, Stacey White and Greg Wynn, both California Polytechnic lecturers.
Cal Poly and DTU students in discussion
In 2011, DTU signed an agreement with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, one of the top 5 American universities in Architecture, to develop the first international-level Architecture program in the Central Region of Vietnam. The two universities regularly exchange lecturers and students and hold training courses on teaching methods.
As part of the program, Cal Poly and DTU students exchange ideas and work together to perfect an architectural project. Twelve groups are now working on a project entitled “Fresno - a Modern Agricultural City”, under the authority of the city of Fresno. It is envisaged that this arrangement will give birth to many innovative ideas about building a modern, unpolluted, agricultural city. Each of the project groups selected a type of building, such as a library, museum, school, hospital, agricultural research institute, apartment building or medical school for development.
A project presentation
Architect Nguyen Quoc Binh, of ZGF Architects in Los Angeles and an Assistant Lecturer of Cal Poly, said: “DTU students are open-minded, friendly and good at teamwork. This is the first time DTU students have learnt about Fresno, so their ideas for this project are original. This special class is a great opportunity for Cal Poly and DTU students to exchange their knowledge and experiences”
The best final projects will be presented to the Fresno City Council by Cal Poly students
Shabnam Mashhoon from Cal Poly said: “This model is familiar to students of California Polytechnic.
They can just walk in to chat with each other during class hours. I am delighted to work with DTU students, who are well-qualified and speak good English. I know that the projects we are developing here today will impress the experts in Fresno”.
