DTU Hosts Youth Science and Technology Health Sciences Conference

On January 27th, the Ministry of Medicine and HCM Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee held the 2018 Youth Science and Technology Health Sciences Conference to promote research at DTU.

Attendees included the DTU provost, Vice-Provosts and Directors of DTU centers, the staff of DTU’s Institute of Medicine, Biology and Pharmacology, the Department of Science and Technology Transfer and lecturers of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing.

The best research projects of DTU lecturers and students majoring in Health Science were reviewed at the conference in order to select the top five for presentation at the National Youth Science and Technology Conference in Medicine in May 2018, at the Ho Chi Minh University of Medicine and Pharmacy. 

Candidates presented brief overviews of their projects, focusing on social issues, such as the impact of the Emotional Quotient on nurses, Nutritious food for patients with gastrointestinal cancer, First aid training, Listing nutritional components on restaurant menus, GPP Pharmacies, the Extraction of beneficial substances from plants, smoking cessation, and so on. 

 
The Evaluation Committee 

The top five were selected based on criteria including research methods, scientific creativity, practical application, and presentation style and duration. 

A systems overview and analysis of the effectiveness of e-Health in smoking cessation won first prize, the attitudes and tastes of buyers on the listing of nutritional components on restaurant menus came second, research on women’s health in menopause came third, followed by research on the antioxidant qualities of Diterpernoid Amides compounds, extracted from Erythrophleum fordii leaves using computational chemistry, and a survey of the Emotional Quotient (EQ) of DTU students majoring in Nursing.

DTU was participating in the conference for the third time, winning one second and two third prizes, confirming   the effort and effectiveness of recent research at the university.
