Vo Thi Kieu Trang, whose father was a soldier exposed in battle to Agent Orange, has just been granted a full one-year DTU scholarship to study Software Engineering.
Kieu Trang was born deformed, with bow-legs and is now just one meter tall. She didn’t give up however and studied hard to score 17.5 in the 2017 National High School Graduation exam. DTU encouraged Trang by awarding her 14.4 million dong and committing to provide her with three more full-year scholarships if she continues to study well during her first year.

At seven, Trang underwent leg surgery in order to be able to walk independently and has been healthier since then. She frequently helps her mother with the housework but, unfortunately, her father is often sick. Her elder brother is also only one meter tall and has just opened a shop repairing computers and TVs at home, but her mother is really still the main breadwinner.
Trang’s mother, Mrs. Pham Thi Van, said that she earns only three to four million dong a month growing rice, so she has to do extra work to earn more. However, she finances Trang’s studies at DTU wholeheartedly. “We were pleasantly surprised when Trang was granted the scholarship, which means she can now dedicate herself to her studies. I am sure that she will succeed in winning three more yearly scholarships to cover her entire DTU education,” said Mrs. Van.
Trang is also extremely energetic and has always been determined to work hard to get into university, as she wants to get a good job and support herself. She reads a lot to broaden her knowledge, both at school and at home. She wants to develop software programs and websites, and create a forum to connect the disadvantaged, to share their experiences and encourage them to overcome their difficulties.
“During their visit to Hoang Dieu High School the other day, DTU lecturers talked about career orientation and the wide range of majors at DTU, which totally convinced me. I am very fond of computer programming and researched the DTU courses. I am confident that I made right choice by selecting a high-quality education to broaden my career opportunities,” said Trang.
