A Student with a Perfect Grade in Geography Enrolls at DTU

The first days of 2017 enrollment season saw hundreds of candidates with total High School Graduation Exam scores of 20 points or more signing up for DTU.

Pham Minh Tuan, with 27.5/30 points, enrolled at DTU

Among them were several outstanding candidates, such as Le Thi Thu Ngan with 28.5/30 points, equaling the highest entry score of 2015, Nguyen Tran Yen Nhi with 25.75/30 and Nguyen Thanh Minh with 25.65/30. Pham Minh Tuan, with 27.5/30, obtained a perfect score for Geography.

Owner of many medals

Since tenth grade, Pham Minh Tuan loved and excelled in socially-oriented subjects and studied History and Geography at the Le Thanh Tong High School. At the 30/4 South Vietnam Olympiad for students of High schools for the Gifted, Tuan won a gold medal in History. At the end of the eleventh grade, he won a bronze medal in the same contest and a second prize for outstanding students from his province, followed by another third prize for outstanding students of History in his final grade.

Tuan surprised himself, because he had previously won several History prizes but this time he obtained a perfect score in Geography. His two other scores were also high, with an 8.25 for Literature and a 9.25 for History. Tuan believes that studying social topics should not be just a matter of rote memorization. In multiple-choice tests, gathering a wide knowledge with an in-depth understanding and awareness of related topics is vital in obtaining a high score. Tuan always participates in forums and has become friends with others who have similar interests on Facebook, to share his knowledge and study experience. The C Block Forum, with over ninety thousand members, is Tuan’s favorite website.

Selecting a School, following in the footsteps of a 2015 DTU valedictorian, Nguyen Thi Thanh

“I talked with Nguyen Thi Thanh, and she explained a lot about the advanced international programs and the progressive and efficient teaching methods at DTU,” said Tuan, explaining his reasons for choosing DTU. “In particular, the fact that Thanh recently won the 2017 Go Green City contest showed me how the effective teaching at DTU enables students to develop their study and research talents. As a result, I confidently chose the On-Site Study-Abroad program to study for a degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management in collaboration with Troy University in the USA.”

Tuan was born into an underprivileged family of rice farmers in Duy Xuyen, in Quang Nam. Tuan’s mother had high hopes for him and was always at his side to encourage him. But she wanted him to choose a university and a major by himself, so that he would be more aware and responsible. So Tuan was very happy to receive a full DTU scholarship and will be able to compete for one of the three three-year full-tuition scholarships from Troy University after his first year.

Tuan confesses that the famous quote by billionaire Bill Gates “If you are born poor it is not your mistake, but, if you die poor, it is your mistake,” has encouraged him. After attending many career orientation events, Tuan decided to settle in Danang, Vietnam’s most livable city, to study and start a career. Hospitality and Hotel Management continues to be a popular major, as tourism is one of Danang’s most important investments, like with many other locations around Vietnam. This is why Tuan was happy to choose DTU, a well-established university offering this program in Central Vietnam, in collaboration with American universities. With his talent in Block C subjects, Tuan can pursue this promising and futuristic major, with its high-quality content and study methods, to strengthen his ability and develop an excellent career path into the future.
