Wishing to find a waste disposal solution for a cleaner environment, three students at Duy Tan University in Danang came up with the idea to produce a device processing organic waste into fertilizer.

 

This product has outstandingly become one of the five representatives of Central Vietnam selected for the national finals of the student start-up contest taking place coming March 2017.

 

 

Applying the knowledge learned from their teachers added to their special love for the city of Danang and the wish to solve the problem of organic waste from the root, three DTU students - Pham Thi Ly Na, Pham Huu Cuong, and Huynh Thi Nhu Hien - joined hands to complete their “Device processing organic waste into fertilizer”.

According to their description, the device to process organic waste includes a system crushing the collected garbage, after which it is covered with a layer of compost microorganisms to speed up the reprocessing of the waste. The waste that is being processed needs to compost from 25 to 30 days and will produce agricultural fertilizer. The above process will strongly decrease the amount of the greenhouse gas methane at landfill sites.

Pham Thi Ly Na said: “In our product presentation for the Central Vietnam jury, we wanted our product to reach many people and to be applied in real life. It comes straight from our hearts, and the entire group wishes the product will somehow contribute to changing people’s consciousness on environmental protection,  and above all in Danang.”

 

 

Creating this product has taught the students many valuable lessons. After three months in the contest and furthermore spending their student’s earnings of an entire year, with several failed attempts when creating their machine, it all ended up motivating them to continue their efforts and improve their creation.

 

The group recently heard that their product was to be one of the representatives of Central Vietnam at the national finals of the student start-up contest about to take place in March 2017. It is a motivation but also a challenge, making them double their efforts for the journey before them.

Contemplating more projects for their machine, Pham Huu Cuong said: “When we heard that we had been selected for the national finals of the student start-up contest, we felt so happy. The jury did recognize the merits of our product. This will motivate us to continue changes to make the device more compact, user-friendly, and beautiful. The machine we take to the coming final round will be a more refined version with more conveniences. It is like our brainchild that we want to use to bring hope of a change of consciousness on environmental protection to the people around us. The only thing concerns us now is where to get funds, but the three of us will strive to overcome this.”
