On November 5th, the qualifying round of the 2016 Central Region Student Information Security competition was held at Duy Tan University in Danang. DTU students beat thirteen other teams from the Danang University of Technology, Quang Binh University, FPT University and the University of Telecommunications by winning both first and second prizes. DTU became the only university in the Central region to move on to the National finals, to be held in Hanoi on December 2nd.
The DTU Competitors
For ten hours, the teams played online Capture the Flag (CTF) contests. They had to attack their opponents and seize their network resources while trying to protect their own. At the end of the competition, Vo Viet Tung, Nguyen Oanh Thuong, Vo Thua Phuc Nguyen and Nguyen Nhat Hoang of the ISIT - DTU1 team came first and Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Hoang Cung and Vo Van Bi of the ISIT - DTU2 team came second. Pham Bao Khanh, Tran Trung Hieu, Pham Vu Nhat Toan and Ta Quang Duc from Information Security at the FPT Polytechnic branch came third.
The ISIT-DTU1 team comes first
Mr. Nguyen Quang Thanh, Director of the Danang Information and Communications Department, said: “The ten hours test the tenacity, concentration and intelligence of all contestants to find the best solutions for keeping information secure. The contest motivated IT students to study more and do more research. Throughout the competition, we were able to identify talented individuals capable of working in the field of information security in the future.”
Twelve members of the three winning teams were invited to join the Network Information Security team, to help enhance Danang’s information systems.
