International Nurses’ Day Celebration at DTU

On May 12th, the DTU Faculty of Nursing and Youth Union celebrated International Nurses’ Day. Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Minh, DTU Vice-Provost, Dr. Nguyen Huynh Ngoc, Dean of the DTU Nursing Faculty, Chief Nurses of Municipal Danang hospitals and DTU students attended. The event commemorated the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Firstly the history of Nursing in Vietnam and worldwide was reviewed, including the life story of Florence Nightingale, the British pioneer of modern nursing and her contributions to the profession.  

Associate Professor Minh said: “Nursing requires continuing efforts to improve qualifications and professionalism, to serve patients best. Over the years, the DTU Faculty of Nursing has partnered with local hospitals to broaden internship opportunities for Nursing students. They are  encouraged to study medical ethics and special English in preparation for graduation and gain  confidence to work in  the ASEAN community.”

  
DTU Nursing students recite the Florence Nightingale Pledge 
 
The Youth Union of Nursing organized the “Charming Nurses” contest. Six students were selected to enter the finals. Tran Thi Kieu Anh of K20YDD3 won “Miss Charming” and Dao Huu Trung of K20YCD won “Mr. Gentleman.” 

The celebration was a special occasion for DTU lecturers and students to honor the founder of modern nursing and demonstrate their talents and love for their future vocation. At the end of the meeting, DTU students recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge to express their deep gratitude to Florence Nightingale, who spent her nights caring for the wounded and became known as "The Lady with the Lamp”.
