Nurturing the Partnership Between the Cities of Danang and Pittsburgh

As part of their official visit to the USA from February 17th to 26th, a delegation from Danang, led by Deputy Chairperson of the Danang People’s Committee Phung Tan Viet, met with city officials in Pittsburgh on February 19th. Mayor William Peduto, representatives of the “100 Resilient Cities movement” and the Institute for Social and Environment Transition, ISET, welcomed the Danang delegation.

Mayor Peduto talked about the development of Pittsburgh, which used to be a polluted city with a wide gap between the rich and poor, which has now become very livable again. He expressed his deep admiration of Danang and its significant achievements. Danang is part of the “100 Resilient Cities Movement - 100 RC” in terms of urban development. Deputy Chairperson Phung Tan Viet talked about the recent rapid progress in Danang and mentioned the many international events hosted there, including the 2016 Round the World Clipper Yacht Race, the 5th Asian Beach Games and so on.

The City of Pittsburgh

Deputy Chairperson Viet praised the efforts made by Pittsburgh in collaborating with Danang in several different areas, including education, NGO assistance and delegation exchanges. According to their agreement, he recommended that Pittsburgh should continue to support partnerships, firstly the improvement of the relationship between Duy Tan University and Penn State and Carnegie Mellon universities. Deputy Chairperson Viet invited the Mayor to visit Danang to strengthen ties and suggested that he should send a business delegation from Pittsburgh to investigate potential investment opportunities.

As well as Danang and Pittsburgh both being members of the 100 RC movement, established by the Rockefeller Institute, they are both named “The City of Bridges” and “The Most Livable City”, which another reason why Mayor Peduto wants to enhance relations between the two cities in many fields.
