On November 6th, the qualifying round of the Central Region 2015 Student Information Security competition was held for the first time in Danang, at Duy Tan University. DTU students overwhelmed strong competitors from FPT University, Quang Binh University and the University of Telecommunications to win first and second prizes, becoming the only university from the Central region to enter the national finals, to be held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 14th.

For four hours, contestants played online Capture the Flag (CTF) contests and solved eight multiple-choice questions about legalities in the Information Security field.

Both the ISIT - DTU1 and ISIT - DTU2 teams did well in the practice test and then came up with the correct answers to eight multiple-choice questions in just eight minutes. At the end of the competition, the ISIT - DTU1 team came first with a score of 400. The ISIT - DTU2 team also scored 400 but took a little more time and came second. Third place went to the “Fusecu” team of FPT University, with 275 points. The Duy Tan ISIT1-DTU team will now go to Ho Chi Minh City to compete with five other teams. These will be the “Animals - Oh Yeah” team from the VNU University of Engineering and Technology, the “Night Elf” team from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the “NatusVincere” team from the University of Information Technology, the “HakiPwn” team from the University of Information Technology of VN National University in HCMC and the “0xb0b0” team from the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology.
Vo Viet Tung, team leader of ISIT - DTU1, said: “We were strongly supported by the DTU Board of Provosts during our preparation for this competition. The university even built a dedicated and secure practice laboratory for us, and invited experts from the field of network security to train with us to gain hands-on experience. The dedication of the DTU IT lecturers in particular helped us to triumph. The competition allows us to broaden our skills in Information Security, and boosts our creativity and confidence in solving similar problems to those that we will face in our future careers.”
