On October 4th, DTU held the 2015-2016 Academic Year Ceremony to welcome K21 students. There were several exhilarating activities, including musical performances, cat walking and dancing.
Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co beats the drum to welcome in the new academic year
Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, said: “Moving from high school to university is a big change. By moving up into a credit-based education system you will adopt new study methods to boost your self-confidence and skills. Our country has developed dramatically, especially in education. That is why you all should now work hard to become kind and talented citizens, who always take responsibility for yourselves, your family and your community, contributing to the safety and protection of Vietnam through your talents.”
The ceremony commemorated DTU’s 21th anniversary, which marked the next period of development in its determination to evolve into a truly multi-disciplined university. DTU now offers the following degrees: PhDs in two majors, a Master’s degree in four majors, a Bachelor’s degree in 21 majors and 41 subjects and an Associate Bachelor’s degree in 16 subjects. Also, linking programs in 11 majors and 16 subjects, a Second-Degree Education Program in 6 majors, an eLearning program in 5 majors and a Vocational Associate program in 3 majors. In addition, DTU also offers Study-Abroad and On-Site Study-Abroad programs.
This year DTU has started to offer more new programs, including Doctorates in Medicine and programs in Economic Law, Construction Management and Natural Resource Management. DTU has collaborated in its On-Site Study-Abroad program with Upper Iowa University in America.
Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co awards a full scholarship to Nguyen Thi Thanh, a K21 DTU Valedictorian
DTU granted many scholarships and awards to outstanding new students, including a laptop for Valedictorian Nguyen Thi Thanh, who scored 28.25/30, and twenty-nine scholarships worth 800 million VND each for students of the On-Site Study-Abroad program. Sixteen students received a tuition discount of 60 to 90% for all 4 years of the course. Total scholarships for students of On-Site Study-Abroad program amounted to 10 billion VND.

Happy to receive a full scholarship, Tran Thi Thanh Thao, a K21 DTU student of Business Administration, said: “I am delighted to receive this DTU scholarship, which is great encouragement for me to try my best to please my family and teachers. I am proud to study in such a modern and dynamic environment.”
DTU Board of Provosts awarded Certificates of Merit and one million VND each to sixteen Valedictorians and two students who won prizes in National competitions. Le Nhat Hung came second in the 2015 National Science and Technology contest and Hoang Thi My Linh came third in the 2015 National French contest. The DTU IDEERS team also received an award.
DTU students perform Flash Mob dancing
The K21 freshmen learned about the DTU Bookcase and the achievements of lecturers and students, faculties and club, exhibited at special booths in the courtyard. Enthusiastic students took part in various artistic activities and they all enjoyed the Flash mob dancing, the musical festival and a catwalk performance.
The ceremony left a lasting impression on all the new students. Although they will encounter many obstacles on their road to a brighter future, the support and dedication of DTU lecturers, combined with hard work and ambition will lead them to success.
