Nguyen Thi Thanh scored 28.25 on her 2015 National Finals exam. She lives in Phong Ho Village, in Hamlet 2A, in the Dien Nam Bac Commune in Dien Ban. She graduated from the Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted in Hoi An. Thanh was eligible to study at the HCMC University of Law, her first choice of university. However, after consulting with her teachers, she decided to apply to DTU instead.
Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, has now confirmed that Thanh will become a 2015 DTU valedictorian and receive a full scholarship of 800 million VND, sponsored by Upper Iowa University and the DTU On-Site Study-Abroad program. In addition, Thanh will be provided with accommodation and a monthly allowance from DTU.

It was easy for Thanh, a decisive young girl, to choose DTU, as she will not be required to pay tuition fees or travel far from home.
Thanh’s father is a farmer. Her mother is a housewife who tries to earn some more money to support her family by taking care some infants of her neighbors. In her spare time Thanh helps her mother look after these infants and reads. She likes Geography and enjoys geographic books and films. She was always an excellent student and was at the top of her class for twelve years with an average score exceeding 9.0.
Mr. Trang Anh Tuan, her personal teacher, said: “Thanh is an energetic, enthusiastic, sociable and talented student. She won two gold medals in Geography in the Le Hong Phong Traditional Olympiad Competition in Ho Chi Minh City in her tenth and eleventh grade and first prize in the provincial Geography competition in 2014 in twelfth grade”.
When asked for advice for other high school students, she said: “Yes, it’s very simple. Firstly, you should try to learn your lessons by heart. Secondly, use an atlas during lessons to memorize additional information about various countries. Finally, you should review lesson content before the class begins. Studying is not difficult. I like Mr. Nguyen Ba Hoc’s words; he says that, with determination and energy, you will definitely overcome all of life’s obstacles and challenges."
