DTU has started to enroll for the Doctor of Medicine (M.D) program. From August 1st to 20th, a lot of highly-qualified applicants from the 2015 national high school finals have registered. The highest score among registered students so far is 27.75, while the minimum set by the university is 22. The DTU Pharmacy Faculty is also attracting high-scoring candidates, with a highest score so far of 25, while the minimum set by the university is 18. The average admission scores of DTU students are increasing yearly, and, with its shrewd investments in the health sciences, DTU is fast becoming the ideal place for students aiming to study Medicine or Pharmacy related subjects.
Many collaborative research projects are being conducted at DTU
According to the Danang Health Department statistics, Danang is in need of 500 doctors. In the Central Region the rate is currently very low, with about 5 doctors per 10,000 people, with an objective of 8 doctors and 2.5 pharmacists per 10,000. The shortage of well-qualified personnel in health care has opened great opportunities for students in the 2015 enrollment season. However, DTU will only select 50 candidates for the M.D. program this academic year.
Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Minh, the DTU Vice-Provost and in charge of DTU Medicine and Pharmacology program, said: “Unlike many other programs, the Doctor of Medicine is a specific major relating to the health and life of human beings. And DTU will only select 50 students in the first enrolment session to maintain the quality of prospective talented and community-oriented doctors.”
Health programs attract students in last National High school finals
Many universities in Danang and the Central Highlands offer health programs, which brings both opportunities and challenges for students because many of them are not fully qualified to be selected for the program they have registered for. In recent years, health programs at DTU have attracted a large number of highly-qualified students, as well as other popular programs such as IT, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Hospitality and Tourism and others. In 2014, the DTU Valedictorian studying Pharmacology scored 24.5/30 in the National Entrance Exam.
With its tenet: “International collaboration improves the quality of education”, DTU has made significant progress in health programs through its partnerships with two American universities, the University of Illinois in Chicago and Pittsburgh University. M.D students will spend most of their first year studying English and Natural Science. Then they will study specialized subjects, mainly using documents and materials in English. DTU has also partnered with 18 hospitals to provide students with the opportunity to work with experienced doctors and practice clinically with patients, at the Family Hospital, the Danang C Hospital, the 17thMilitary Zone Hospital, the 199th Hospital of the Ministry of Public Security, the Quang Nam General hospital and others.
The chances of being admitted change every day, as the ranking requirements are being continually adjusted between this year’s two admission sessions. DTU is enabling insightful and proactive candidates to study in a high-quality educational environment, best suited to their qualifications and capabilities.
