An Introduction to Some of the Most Outstanding New DTU Students

Over the past three years, the DTU entrance examination results have been gradually improving and the quality of a DTU education has gained more recognition as a result.

The average entrance grades were 14.5 in 2012, 15.1 in 2013 and 15.8 this year. Aware of this trend, in 2014 the university now offers unique, new scholarships to attract more gifted students.

The first candidates with high entrance marks were from Quang Nam province. Coming from different backgrounds, each with their own aspirations, deep down they are all proud to have overcome difficulties and hardships in their lives and attain such high academic achievements.

Huynh Nhu Hien of the Faculty of Business Administration

Coming from a family of shopkeeper with many children, Huynh Nhu Hien’s parents were determined that their children would study “until the very end”. Their efforts were rewarded when their daughter scored 25/30. Nhu Hien chose DTU for its state-of-the-art curriculum in Business Administration and Hospitality, through the collaboration with Pennsylvania State University in the USA, as well as for the opportunity to study with a scholarship, from the Bachelor to PhD level at DTU.

Pham Thi Ly Na dreams of taking part in international commerce

Pham Thi Ly Na is another freshman from Quang Nam with a high mark of 23.5. When she learnt she had been granted a partial scholarship at Duy Tan, she connected to Facebook and entered the Duy Tan Forum to find companions for her upcoming studies. “I was very glad to discover that many other people from Quang Nam had been awarded partial or full scholarships by DTU” she said.

Nguyen My Toan, student of the Faculty of Information Technology

Born and raised in Danang, Nguyen My Toan scored 22.5 and came to DTU because of his passion for IT. Even though he knew little about the university, he was positively impressed at its IT infrastructure, its many modern computer labs with both Macs and PCs,  the Web Security training rooms, an ERP management information system, and the enthusiasm of the lecturers, right from the first glance and smile. He expects the DTU partnerships with large software companies, such as Microsoft, there is a Microsoft Innovation Center right in the university, Boeing, who offer highly-valued scholarships, IBM, with its advanced training programs and so on, will help his IT skills develop and flourish.

DTU is also attracting many gifted Pharmacy students

Student Mien Thao dreams of becoming a pharmacist

Some students with high entrance marks in this field are Mac Thi Bao Dung, with 23.5 points, Nguyen Thuy Mien Thao, with 23.5, Nguyen Huy Hoang with 23 and dozens of others with 20 points or more. Ms Mien Thao, who during her high-school days had already obtained first and third city prizes in Biology, says, “Public healthcare is steadily becoming indispensable to increase living standards of the population. I hope that, with its modern system of medical, pharmaceutical, and microbiological labs, Duy Tan University can support me and other students in our studies and research in the various subfields of Medicine and Pharmacy.”

Outstanding freshman Vo Thi Hoai Tram

The most outstanding freshman is probably Vo Thi Hoai Tram, also from Quang Nam, with the top score of 26.5/30. As the eldest daughter of a family of needy farmers, with strong academic talents and a desire to start a business of her own, she says that she wants to “lead the way where nobody has ever been before”. She has drawn the admiration of many relatives and friends. In addition to her full DTU scholarship, Hoai Tram was given a laptop computer by the Phi Long Company, who had a program to donate computers to the six leading students at Danang universities on September 27th. Duy Tan was the only private university amongst them.
Apart from these remarkable people, the increasing number of students enrolling from gifted high schools is also noteworthy. For example, this year there were 15 freshmen from the Le Quy Don Gifted High School in Danang, 11 from the Quang Binh Gifted High School, and six from the Le Khiet Gifted High School.

Dreams Flying High, Flying Far

Despite their youth, the eagerness for learning and career dreams of these remarkable, new DTU students leave many of us astounded. Not just content with the prospect of finding good jobs on graduation, many of them aspire to become successful entrepreneurs and managers, creating jobs for themselves and others. These ambitious dreams motivate them to do their best right from the outset of their university years.

Hoai Tram is determined to become a successful Managing Director

Hoai Tram wants to become a Managing Director, to pioneer the development of new products that improve people’s lives. Meanwhile, Nhu Hien went against her mother’s advice that “young women need stability, so study teaching and have it easy” to pursue her passion for business. Ly Na goes even further and, at the age of twenty, dreams of joining a multinational company to bring skilled workers from all over the world together, to share their knowledge and experience and to create new opportunities in Vietnam. And Mien Thao has dreamed of becoming a pharmacist since grade nine, to create many new kinds of useful medicines.

Concerning his choice to study IT at DTU, Nguyen My Toan said: “In 2015, Vietnam will enter the ASEAN Community. A global working environment requires that graduates have a solid knowledge base and are creative in their jobs. DTU has gone one step further in educating many high-quality IT graduates, using state-of-the-art, international curricula, bringing in more talented students and gaining high prestige. I hope this will a good launch pad to make us victorious in meeting the challenges we will encounter in our forthcoming studies and entrepreneurial careers.”

The achievements of these outstanding DTU freshmen can still be considered rather modest when compared with other students at leading universities in Vietnam but they demonstrate how much effort has gone into improving the quality of enrollees at the oldest non-public university of the Central region. Brand-new curricula, modern teaching methods, dedicated lecturers, and the creation of ideal conditions for disadvantaged students are all essential to the development and ultimate success of DTU.
