Research in IT, Physics, Photonics and Medicine and Pharmacology at DTU

Integrating education and research is essential at universities. DTU founded the Center for Research and Development two years ago, in response to a request from the government to encourage scientists at both public and private institutions to conduct research. The center has since made a significant contribution to the development of scientific research at DTU.

Since its inception, the DTU Center for Research and Development has attracted more than 30 scientists with PhDs from leading universities in the USA, Russia, France, Germany, Canada, Korea and Belgium. The quantity of research papers has increased yearly, and 72 have been published on ISI so far. In 2010-2011, DTU had 17 research papers published in magazines and at international conferences, and another 70 in 2013-2014. The DTU Science and Technology magazine has also become a forum for researchers nationwide to exchange their knowledge and experience.

DTU was the first private university to win a contract to conduct research in Information Technology at the Ministry level. Our researchers are conducting six Nafosted projects in the fields of Electronics, Biology, Pharmacology, Physics, Photonics and other research in collaboration with institutions in the UK, the USA and Germany. DTU has hosted several national and international conferences in IT (2013), Electronics (Commantel 2013 and 2014), Spectroscopy and Optics.

At the 39th National Conference on Theoretical Physics, Dr. Phan Van Nham of the DTU Center for Research and Development won the only award for young Vietnamese researchers in 2014. DTU students, with the support of young researchers, won the 2013 CDIO Cup, with first and second prizes from the CDIO Academy, held at Harvard University and MIT (http://cdio.org/node/6014). DTU students also won a third-place award in IDEERS, hosted in Taiwan in 2013. Most recently, Dr. Nguyen Huy Thuan of the DTU Molecular Biology Center has been sponsored by the International Foundation for Science, IFS, to conduct research in Pharmacology.

Dr. Nguyen Nhan Duc, Dean of DTU Faculty of Pharmacology, who used to be Dean of Pharmacology at Hue Medical University said: “Young researchers who have graduated from leading universities worldwide, such as Dr. Thuan, Dr. Do, Dr. Hung, Dr. Trung and others have provided much support to the training and research activities in the Faculty of Pharmacology, which has recently been established with 51 lecturers and staff”. In cooperation with Biology researchers, our faculty has succeeded in discovering a way of exterminating Convolvulus on Cham Island, which was a great concern for the Hoi An People’s Committee.

At the 17th Vietnamese Conference on Medicine and Pharmacology, DTU won second and third prizes for discoveries in the synthetic biology of active medical pharmaceutical substances. DTU has also hosted several seminars with leading experts in the fields of Medicine and Pharmacology. Projects completed to enhance education and research at DTU have been recognized by the government and our scientists have become great motivators for DTU to sustain its momentum in the near future.
