In order to provide opportunities for DTU students to learn at American educational standards at relatively low cost, DTU has signed several partnership agreements with American universities to offer dual-degree programs. A student and staff exchange program has been arranged with Lorain County Community College in Ohio and from February 17th to March 8th. Mrs. Barbara G. Howell came to DTU to teach and run seminars to improve the English and communication skills of DTU students.
Mrs. Howell speaks at a seminar
This is the second time that Mrs. Howell has come to DTU and this term she has chosen to teach a Business Communication class. She said:“Business Communication is an important major for students, especially in our new global environment. Students of Tourism and Hospitality, Business Administration and Finance need to study Business Communication to develop their written and oral skills. Business Communication helps them to understand and reflect on what they say, their body language, how they communicate what they are saying and how they can improve both their individual communication and their understanding of others. I love teaching DTU students. Their English is much better than I had expected and they are very engaged. They are very good in asking questions and they come up with some good examples. They work hard. I’m not a teacher who gives high grades very easily but in the first assignment on Group Presentation, three of the students scored a perfect 100%. Students who successfully complete the ten-week class will be eligible to receive credits from Lorain County Community College.”

Under Mrs. Howell’s instruction, DTU students have learned much and studied under innovative teaching methods. Van Duc Nhat, a student of K16PSUQTH, said: "The course was of great benefit to us. We were taught how to communicate effectively in business situations, including the production of letters, memoranda, reports, resumes and in oral presentations. I hope that DTU will offer us more similar courses, so that we can improve our English and communications.”
During her visit to DTU, Mrs. Barbara Howell conducted two seminars for Tourism and Hospitality students, entitled “Intellectual Property and Research Documentation” and “Inter-Cultural Communication Challenges”. In addition, she met with the DTU English Club and students to help them prepare for entrance exams, like TOEFL and the TOEIC.
Besides the 1+1+2 exchange program with LCCC, Duy Tan University has collaborated with Appalachian State University in the US on a 2+2 articulation program and with Coventry University in the UK on a 3+1 program. In line with exchange programs with other well-known universities worldwide, articulation and dual-degree programs offer opportunities for students to study international standard curricula under the instruction of international faculty.
