On April 23, representatives from the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) came to DTU to talk about the VEF scholarship program. The visitors included Dr. Lynne McNamara, Executive Director from VEF headquarters in the US and Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, chief of the VEF Vietnam in Hanoi.

Founded in 2000, VEF is an independent federal agency created by Congress and funded annually by the US Government. Its mission is to strengthen the US -Vietnam bilateral relationship through educational exchanges in science and technology. With an annual budget of $5 million, VEF is expected is operate until 2018, with scholarships ending in 2016.

The three majors that VEF focuses on are Science and Technology, Mathematics, Engineering and Medicine, implemented under three categories as Fellowships, Visiting Scholars and US Faculty Scholars. Of these, the VEF Fellowships have received the most attention in Vietnam.

It was the second VEF visit to DTU. “All you need to get a VEF scholarship is your intelligence”, said Dr. MacNamara during the discussion. Although applicants have to meet the high VEF requirements, this is still an opportunity for those who want to study for a foreign degree.

VEF- Be Confident to Say “I can!”

“Don’t hesitate, start planning now! If you think are able, it’s not too late to do the things you really long for”, said Dr. Lynne MacNamara.
